Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

http://www.techienews.co.uk/9723874/pioneerin...itor-ocean-acidification/

If we let this one go people will believe anything

They claim they can measure the pH of the Planets Oceans from Space

This is due to the claim that our CO2 emissions are making the Oceans more acidic and now by magic they can perform the Litmus Test by Satellite

First of all quite aside from being able to see, by proxy, the Oceans pH value from outside our atmosphere the Oceans are Alkali, strongly so, and are full of dissolved salts and carbonate buffers that stabilize the Ocean pH within tight boundaries.

Add acid and the carbonate buffers cancel this change

This is why it is more difficult to keep marine tropical fish than fresh water ones
http://www.tropic-marin.com/meersalze/tropic-marin-meersalz/?lang=en
within the small body of water that is an aquarium.

Here's how carbonate buffering works

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicarbonate_buffering_system

and here in the Oceans

http://www.ehow.com/info_8299150_carbonate-buffering.html

note the line "The ocean's buffering capacity -- its ability to soak up acid or base -- is very large"

Dave

p.s. maybe if we filled the Oceans with universal indicator solution the Satellites would then be able to see what colour it turned.... one small problem... it would be bluey green smile

Of course a single Niagara Falls freeze-up cannot be said to have been caused by global warming; but what is known about global warming says such freeze-ups are now more probable than they were.

So, just a taste of what is to come as the warming trend continues.

Climate alarmists grasping at icicles.

http://cnsnews.com/commentary/h-sterling-burn...larmists-grasping-icicles

In early January, just a little over a month ago, the federal government’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) made front-page news by announcing 2014 was the warmest year on record.
NASA’s “record” global average temperature was just two hundredths of a degree above the previous record, with the margin of error being several times greater than the amount of warming. NASA backtracked, saying there was only a 38 percent chance 2014 was the warmest year on record. And that record goes back only about 150 years, a microscopic sliver of the planet’s history.
