Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Main CPU fan on the Global Thermometer has failed again (must be Global Warming wot done it wink)

So that's me down 4 days a day (or 10Ghz) until I can get out to the data centre

It's still running, just not crunching - too much risk

With Android wiped out by Lollipop I've lost over a week a day !

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Bought some "cheap" Petrol for £1.07 a litre ($6.11/gallon us)

My Government took £0.7578 of that

Over 70.8% of the cost of fuel at the pump is direct taxation.

Even if the oil companies gave it away for free it would still cost 69.54p/litre

How is this justified?

(For comparison http://fuelgaugereport.aaa.com/todays-gas-prices/)

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-30785623

Sellafield firm set to lose £9bn clean-up contract

"The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), which awarded the contract, last year increased its estimate for cleaning up the UK's nuclear sites by 7% to £110bn over the next 120 years, with Sellafield accounting for the vast bulk of that."

Oooo please let's build some more - they are clean safe and carbon neutral you know

So clean and safe it costs £110,000,000,000 and 120 years of work to make it clean and safe

Imagine what could have been achieved with the £110,000,000,000 if it didn't need spending to clear up the existing nuclear mess in the UK

Imagine

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysect...top-boilers-cracking.html

All 4 reactors, that have been running for 31 years in the 2 Stations, are back in service.

Note the Boilers are inside the biological shield of the reactors. Core ->CO2 Gas->Boilers. They are not in a separate building they surround the core

This is not the first time that Heysham 1 and Hartlepool have been shut down for work on their boilers.

They should have been shut down back in 2009

Previously http://www.imeche.org/news/engineering/edf-nu...five-year-life-extensions

http://www.neimagazine.com/news/newsedf-to-ex...tlepool-are-first-winners

http://www.neimagazine.com/news/newsheysham-a1-returns-to-service-4487201

Note the justification for it's return to service

Heysham A1 returned to service on Saturday 10 January 2015 and EDF Energy has confirmed that the reactor is 'producing low carbon electricity.'

They can stick their low carbon electricity ................(additional words would be deemed unsuitable for this form)
