The red line shows the difference from normal - normal aka average being 0

It shows the ongoing trend of inexorable decrease in the global sea ice coverage due to our carbon dioxide emissions causing man made global warming .......

...hang on a minute....are you sure that's correct....there can't be.....the models say....no not the sun....what about the Oceans we'll tell 'em the Oceans ate our homework...that will stop them asking questions for a while....

more than normal you say....

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

I showed the above graph to my future Sister-in-Law's Uncle yesterday

He looked at the graph, looked at me, and exclaimed "Well I'll be " and the rest would be tidied up due a wrong combination of letters for the forum.

His fantastic response to facts will keep me fueled for a long long time.

My nieces were pretty sure it was snow this afternoon biggrin

14 years on
http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/snow...g-of-the-past-724017.html

"Dr David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, within a few years winter snowfall will become "a very rare and exciting event".

"Children just aren't going to know what snow is," he said."

It curtailed the boxing day party as we all dashed home so we didn't get something'ed in

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

The December 2014 result is in and the average temperature from 2438 NOAA Weather Stations around the Globe was 5.002C - the warmest December in the series, right after the coldest November in the series. The yin and yang of the weather and our climate.

The average temperature January 2014 through to the end of December 2014 was 12.499C

Up 199/1000ths of a degree compared with the year to the end of November 2014

Here's another forum friendly sized graph that updates hourly

The graphs above are (at this moment in time) the result of 87,208,640 individual temperature measurements taken around the Globe from (the same set of) NOAA Weather Stations since the beginning of 2011 cool

We now have 4 years worth of data

2011 12.584C
2012 13.047C
2013 12.259C
2014 12.499C

Just remember when you are being bombarded by the news that 2014 was the hottest year ever... the thermometers don't lie

Average temperature across all 4 years = 12.598C

In the UK we have had an exceptionally mild year with the year end looking like being just under 1.5C warmer than the 1961-1990 average - the highest Central England Temperature since records began in 1772. Our Government got lucky as a result and the lights stayed on. As we have seen in our temperature series record highs can be followed by record lows and vice versa

Here's to 2015, may God bless her and all who sail in her, around our local Star

Dave
