Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Having some strange offsets in the temperature record

This happens when swathes of NOAA's Weather Stations stop reporting

A quick check at weatherspark.com shows that Greenland's weather stations are off-air and if Greenland goes off-air at this time of year then it will get "warmer" biggrin

I'll keep an eye on it to see if the anomaly persists. If it does then like the Siberian weather stations that are still off-air I will have to strip them from the record so it's apples with apples again.

Watch out for press releases claiming warmer than ever Greenland Temperatures this year.....erm.. only when you stop taking them wink

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

This strange white flaky cold stuff keeps falling from the sky
When it lands in your hand it turns into a clear liquid

It's been happening on a fairly regular basis over the last week or so

Any ideas as to what it might be ?

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

The first signs of panic this winter are setting in on our UK National Grid

They have the been firing up the Open Cycle Gas Turbines (OCGT's) during peak demand - around 5:45pm during the last week - a cold snap and no wind.

Basically they are ground based jet engines connected to a alternator

From 2012 http://www.icis.com/resources/news/2012/02/14...-system-feels-the-strain/

See data at http://www.gridwatch.templar.co.uk/

We're very nearly all out of spare oomph

We'll lose more coal stations this year and, here's hoping, at least Wylfa on the Nuclear front

Wylfa is the worlds oldest working nuclear power station based on the start of construction date. Only half working - they shut the other reactor in 2012

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wylfa_Nuclear_Power_Station

In the case of this one roll on the end of 2015

Have I mentioned that the lights will go out wink

There really is no end to the things that Man Made Global Warming can cause

Except that is for a warmer Planet

Remember those 4 reactors in Heysham and Hartlepool that had to be shut down for tests for cracks in their Boiler supports (Inside the biological shield)

Here they are "back in service"

n.b. original generating capability 575MW per reactor

This is Hartlepool - originally planned for closure 2009

It's 2015
