Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

may be this is related:
Shrinking of Antarctic ice shelves is accelerating

"A new study shows that not only has Antarctica’s ice shelf volume gone down, but losses have accelerated over the past decade."

At first i thought Artic was the only one to melt down and Antartica to expand? Wonder myself?

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

The West Antarctic Peninsula seems to be an interesting place, well worthy of study. But it also the source of misleading headline titles such "63.5°F in Antarctica", for a place about 1800 miles from the South Pole.

And being a cynic I have to wonder about that measurement. A Google search for "Esperanza Base" (the location of the record) picks up lots of images but not one that shows people out in shorts playing volleyball. Heck, around here I sometimes see people in shorts when the weather is freezing! Perhaps people are trained to be ready for the worst, even it means getting a heat stoke from the Parka. Or perhaps people don't want to risk funding by depicting the place as a lush playground. But I suspect it is more likely that the place is darn cold and 63.5°F is a rare aberration.

What's that word that is the opposite to melting ?

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

The April result is in and the average temperature from 2438 NOAA Weather Stations around the Globe was 12.417C

Edged out of top spot by 2012

The average temperature May 2014 through to the end of Aril 2015 was 12.667C

Here's another forum friendly sized graph that updates hourly

The graphs above are (at this moment in time) the result of 94,111,569 individual temperature measurements taken around the Globe from (the same set of) NOAA Weather Stations since the beginning of 2011 cool

On average every 1.5 seconds another temperature reading is added to the database .... wink
