http://www.managementtoday.co.uk/news/1191246...-pushing-energy-bills-20/

The last sentence says it all

"And it’s is not all doom and gloom - one positive result from rising prices should be an substantial increase in efforts to be more efficient in our electricity usage. If we can use less but pay more for it, the overall cost may not rise as much as some fear."

And in France the "Big Benny" ( cost of rent 12 mios euros) is helping EDF to increase our bills for nuclear energy
The new EPR plant got his dome,5 years late, and cost exploding from 3,3 billions to 8,5

And exposing us to new dangers...

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Thanks for the link! It will be interesting to see how the trip goes. Normally I'd be rooting for success, but the politicization puts a damper on that. I like this bit from a recent update:

The temperature in Tuk is -1C and there's a strong Northeasterly wind blowing in the morning. Locals tell us it should be 15-20C at this time of year. "The bugs should be bouncing off your head" explained Eilleen who came down to the beach to visit with us. ...

The words of an elder cuts through the rhetoric of climate alarmists like freezing weather through skin. They know because they live it.

Oops, I may have misquoted that italicized bit. I suppose people hear what they want to hear.

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Well today's the day...... I have just received an estimate for my annual electricity bill

shock

So while my crunchers are not being dual purposed (i.e warming my flat while crunching) as finally a proper Summer has arrived in the UK, today, for the first time, I am going to have to switch off as even with some of the most efficient crunchers on the grid and my reasonable wages it's now untenable in the UK to keep them running while it is warm outside

My day rate is now 19.53p/KWh ($0.2974/KWh)

So there you go, the answer to the question "Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK"

The answer is 17th July 2013

Our electricity will either go off this coming winter or maybe, with a bit of luck it might last until next.

There goes progress

Dave

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

At last - just a minute I need to put these on cool ah that's better

Some payback for that March

note: the average anomaly should tend towards 0 over the whole year

Currently running -0.71C below the 1961-90 average

Prolonged Sunshine after a truly dismal start to the year - lovely smile

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-23334466

The [UK] government is turning away from its controversial policy of subsidising UK power stations to generate electricity from burning wood.

It is proposing that subsidies for bespoke biomass burning plants should be capped at 400 MW per plant.

It will end subsidies for biomass burning in existing stations by 2027.

So we are only subsidising until 2027 .... that's perfectly reasonable d oh

note this is not a subsidy this is reducing the tax take for extracting gas from 62% to 30%

So if they take twice as much gas out of the ground as a result of this "light" regime then the tax take by UK Gov will be almost the same.
