Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

There is plenty of rare elements in Russia, and the UK is the only place on earth with all known natural elements. I think we were buying it because the Chinese were willing to mine it cheaply. They are so big into mining that they bought a mountain in South America and have moved into Africa exploiting en mass,

The articles highlight the way some Science is being misreported by the media, who have a broadcast or print deadline to meet, and are not about to let the chilling truth get in the way of a tall story.

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

"The (IPCC) scientist behind the bogus claim in a Nobel Prize-winning UN report that Himalayan glaciers will have melted by 2035 last night admitted it was included purely to put political pressure on world leaders."

In fact, the date "2035" seems to have been pulled out of "thin air", from a non peer-reviewed article from the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF).

See bogus claim.

Now that's science!!!

Meanwhile, NASA quietly deleted the date reference (which they moved up to 2030 for the glaciers disappearing).

See the following pages about two-thirds of the way down (the entry referring to "The disappearing snowcap of Mount Kilimanjaro, from space."):

Before (from Google Cached pages)

NASA Site as it is now.

No explanation -- guess you can get away with changes if you do it secretly.

@littlepeaks,

specially for you, about an overheard phone conversation with a guy called Joe: http://climateprogress.org/2010/01/25/un-scie...lly-motivated/#more-17890

Read carefully and do not snip quote.

Don't worry littlepeaks it won't be long now

voices in the media will be heard

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/dailypolitics/andrewneil/

This horrendous tax raising, nuclear supporting, fearmongering global political propaganda scheme is now on it's last legs.

...the North Pole is just fine

http://www.ijis.iarc.uaf.edu/en/home/seaice_extent.htm

Brussels is sub zero, it's snowing in the UK

and in Rome where I am today (working) I can assure you there won't be a drought this year wink

It's chucking it down

Cat's and Dog's

It's called January. Just a business as usual, regular, perfectly typical January

I'm just wondering how long it will be until the Nobel Peace (not science) Prize (including all of the $$$$) for 2007 is requested to be returned and given to a more peaceful cause.

The trace gas that makes up 0.0387% of the atmosphere providing all food for all life on earth and through that food every carbon molecule in our "Carbon based lifeforms" enabled through the wonderful design that is Chlorophyll and a judicious placing of our local star - will not a global disaster make.

Promise smile

Weather is not climate.

The trace gas that makes up 0.0387% of the atmosphere

For the 1000th time: irrelevant.

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

What is Climate without Weather Eso?

Climate is Weather averaged

It' not snowing in Rome because of it's location and therefore climate. It's snowing in the UK because of it's location and therefore climate.

There is nothing wrong with the Weather and by extension there is nothing wrong with the Climate.

It's just a business as usual typical (climatically) January

Now for the 1000th time stop posting weather is not climate after every post of mine and.. yes you are right the trace gas that is CO2 is irrelevant in the discussion of climate

If you have any new observations - let us all know

Dead wrong. You can't claim that because it's snowing there is nothing wrong with the climate. Just because it's snowing in the UK doesn't mean that it hasn't gotten warmer over the past 30 years. What do you expect? No winter? You're contradicting yourself. You said above "climate is weather averaged". Climate is a long term trend. You cannot derive any conclusions about the climate by selecting one point in a single area. You can't make any conclusion about the trend of a line on a graph from a single point. That's just simple math.

http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/noaa-n/climate/climate_weather.html
Weather is what conditions of the atmosphere are over a short period of time, and climate is how the atmosphere "behaves" over relatively long periods of time.

Now for the 1000th time stop posting weather is not climate after every post of mine and.. yes you are right the trace gas that is CO2 is irrelevant in the discussion of climate

Weather is an immediate phenomenon. Climate is an average LONG-TERM TREND.

As we have all stated many times, just because something is a small percent doesn't mean it can't have a huge effect. Cyanide, a drop of ink in a glass of water, etc. Small amounts --> very very large effect. If you don't believe me, go ahead and put a drop of cyanide in your water today. After all it will be <.01% of the total volume of the water. If your fallacious assumption is correct, it's only a trace amount and should have no effect on you.

Your endless anecdotal accounts of weather are completely meaningless when discussing climate.

Now if you have anything to share other than what it looks like when you pop your head out the window, please do.

See we just can't let it go. Until you learn that Climate is not Weather and Weather is not Climate, you have to keep going to class. Now get up from your desk and start writing your lines on the blackboard. Once you learn this, we can move on to the real issues.

Not sinking in......... Must say it again.......... Students not learning......... Why won't they understand......... Not sinking in.............. Not sinking in............

http://eo.ucar.edu/basics/

Weather is the mix of events that happen each day in our atmosphere including temperature, rainfall and humidity. Weather is not the same everywhere. Perhaps it is hot, dry and sunny today where you live, but in other parts of the world it is cloudy, raining or even snowing. Everyday, weather events are recorded and predicted by meteorologists worldwide.

Climate in your place on the globe controls the weather where you live. Climate is the average weather pattern in a place over many years. So, the climate of Antarctica is quite different than the climate of a tropical island. Hot summer days are quite typical of climates in many regions of the world, even without the affects of global warming.

One final point: Weather is not Climate
