Arctic Ice at Low Point Compared to Recent Geologic History: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/06/100602193423.htm Now, in an upcoming issue of Quarternary Science Reviews, a team led by Ohio State University has re-examined the data from past and ongoing studies -- nearly 300 in all -- and combined them to form a big-picture view of the pole's climate history stretching back millions of years. "The ice loss that we see today -- the ice loss that started in the early 20th Century and sped up during the last 30 years -- appears to be unmatched over at least the last few thousand years," said Leonid Polyak, a research scientist at Byrd Polar Research Center at Ohio State University. I would like to know what the answer is to this--?? I am serious |

Dear All
----------------------------------------Let's wait until around the 13th September to see how the NH Sea Ice melt for 2010 concludes It's been higher and also lower than recorded by the JAXA satellite so far in 2010 - that's just weather The temperature above 80 degrees north is typical for this time of the year http://ocean.dmi.dk/arctic/meant80n.uk.php Tomorrow at 11:28 UTC is the Summer Solstice and from there on the amount of Sunlight the Northern Hemisphere receives daily reduces once again until Dec 21st What you are not being told - because it suits the alarmist agenda - is the difference between these 2 graphs... http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/IMAGES/seaice.recent.arctic.png http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/IMAGES/seaice.recent.antarctic.png ...results in a Global Sea Ice anomaly of -100,000 km2 on a planet with a surface area of 510,072,000 km2 i.e. there isn't a "Climate Crisis" However you would like to spin it Make it a great day Dave *Just thought I would take out all that white space for a change* ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by David Autumns at Jun 20, 2010 5:32:52 PM] |

Just for a balanced view
----------------------------------------today in Brussels, the 20th June 2010, we got up to a "sweltering" 12C peak temperature http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/EBBR.html This is on account of the North Pole leaching out all of that cold air across Northern Europe at the mo Let's hope it doesn't get any "warmer" Dave ![]() |

Dear DA, was that another [preemptive] bout of the "Sleep Tight, No bugs to bite" lullabies? People read, people forget, particularly that what is selectively undesirable. Since I'd like to understand I'm working through a book titled "The Art of Denial"... it's not out in English yet.
----------------------------------------For your pre-shut-eye, the June Arctic Sea Ice projection, and 11 days still missing... it's looking not good. ![]() Of course, for more balanced view, the reality check: ![]() At the end of May 10,000 cubic km was missing... feel free to hope it will be better when it turns 13 September. 13 September of every year is the weather... you've got that spot on. The sum of 10,957.5 days consecutively provides a solid indicator for climate and the trend... it's warming and Beluga shipping made 1 billion more turnover last year, thanks to absence of Arctic Sea Ice. Happy dreams... it helps to face the day after tomorrow.

If only you could see unfolding realities, that matter, DA!
----------------------------------------![]() Link to the very big picture: http://psc.apl.washington.edu/ArcticSeaiceVol...eVolumeAnomalyCurrent.png From last May 30 update of almost 10,000 cubic KM Sea Ice missing to June 16, with ~10,750 cubic KM missing. How much energy do you think that takes out of global cooling? When you know and have figured out how much that missing Sea Ice and Snow cover adds to the energy budget, then tell us when you believe yourself that it Aint True! PS: Sea ice will be back in 6 months ... ask your Belgian colleagues what "Dat is een waarheid als een koe" means.

Hi DA,
----------------------------------------Since I don't expect you to ever publish really relevant numbers other than the very big ones you're so self-impressed with here's one for you. Buckle up as it's probably not save for you to see these without precaution: http://www.atmos-chem-phys.net/10/777/2010/acp-10-777-2010.pdf quote (cherry picked to my best ability): A disappearance of the Arctic ice cap during the sunlit period of the year would radically reduce the local albedo and cause an annually averaged 19.7 Wm−2 increase in absorbed solar flux at the Arctic Ocean surface, or equivalently an annually averaged 0.55 Wm−2 increase on the planetary scale. In the clear-sky scenario these numbers increase to 34.9 and 0.97 Wm−2 , respectively. If you read back in this thread you will discover that Judith Lean, one fav of yours was emphasizing that the solar cycle flux caused a variation of 0.21 Watts per square meter, and was chirping it was allot on a global scale... all those 510 million square km of yours. Just the ice missing, is 2.5 times more! Pretty plz, would you compute the effect of 5 million km square snow cover missing during the spring/summer season and the albedo effect to go with that at much lower latitudes and the watts spread out on global scale... a variable we know about. PS: Still not heard which magical Known Unknown or Unknown Unknown that will cause the planet to cool. It's not neutrino's from space... we know they barely interact with any matter, of fact! What the sky watchers from the Canadian Arctic coast know is that an Record of heat records continue, Big blue hits the Beaufort sea full throttle Dr Masters encapsulates very well world wide heat supreme for 3 months running, assuring 2010 being warmest ever year a bit closer now, as expected. Montreal sun disk per level expansions are through the roof , 37% strong compared to 8 previous seasons, this is more than 20% next to its nearest rival, 2006. Big blue is expanding everywhere in the high Arctic, leads along the Arctic Archipelago coast are clearly seen for the first time since early spring. This will accelerate the melting tremendously, since its occurring at the solstice, very high sun, and will further demolish previous ice extent records. Everything is coming about as expected.... Unfortunately.... WD June 18 2010 Happy dreams, for the day after tomorrow might look less good for our one-off planet... the only one we have!

PS: Sea ice will be back in 6 months ... ask your Belgian colleagues what "Dat is een waarheid als een koe" means. It means that Flanders and Wallonia still can't stand each other, and would like to break up the country and build a big ditch between them.

I was in Brussels this week for work, for three days, 22, 23, 24. Every day was hotter. For once I was without a tie and with short sleeves.
