Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 36 smilesmile

Milkyway sent out some test GPU wu's but they ran in less than 1 second. Ooops. I didn't get any. Maybe more today??? Maybe bigger ones? biggrin

DM, if you are interested, I have room in my case for a single slot card. Could I hypothetically crunch on my 260 GTX, a borrowed 8500GT from you, and my quad core all in one pc?

Is there a way to send the Milkyway WUs to the 8500GT and give the 260 GTX only GPUGrid WUs?

Now that would be quite the config. biggrin It might work if you attached the monitor to the GTX260 and left the 8500GT alone. Otherwise your frame rate would suck. I'm sure Master Blizzie would know better than me. You are more than welcome to the cards though. I should have two more of them as it appears they came out of the HP's. (senile)

No, BOINC uses the GPU for the next GPU project that becomes available.

EDIT: It is still unclear to me if both GPUGrid and AQUA can coexist. My very first wu at AQUA blew up when it switched to the GPUGrid job. But a lot of their jobs were blowing up then and they have made two version changes since then. I have been just running AQUA alone since then. I will test it when I get some successful ones done. I've blown up some jobs and am always on the verge of exceeding the daily job limit. Then I get punished with 24 hours of no work. biggrin

Ah, it kills me, but I love GPUGrid too much to cause it problems by cohabiting with AQUA. I guess if they eventually figure out a way to send specific jobs to specific machines CPU, and which GPU, then I would run the project.

AH, but wait, the mineral oil pc might be able to cool an 8500GT for crunching...

On second thought, you could route which jobs go to which cards by using Suspend/Resume and Get No Tasks/Allow Tasks but that would be a lot more work than I would be willing to do. Let's see what MW comes up with. Nice to have GPU options now.

EDIT: I went back and looked at the IBP spec's and you are correct ... it had an onboard card. sad I guess the 8500's I have came out of the HP's. Sorry about that. I will be glad to send you a 8500 free of charge with a 100% No money back gaurantee!!! laughing biggrin laughing Meanwhile I will look for my senility medication. sad

DM -- thanks, but I will pass on it. The paralysis in my hands prevents me from working on them. Maybe my next system.

What's your next system going to be Dave?

Dr. Mike..

Too soon to say, Dr. Mike. It will probably be a spur of the moment decision as was my IBuyPower Core2 Quad. I found put about the low price for it in here from Dataman and jumped on it.

Is there any other way? biggrin That's how I got all the parts for a new build. I swear that Newegg is customizing their email only sales to ones browsing and buying history. I keep getting sales on things I want. Power supply and memory came today. MoBo arrives tomorrow.
biggrin
