Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 36 smilesmile

Well MOT, I am very much impressed with how AQUA handled their rollout. In six days they rolled out the project, fixed the wu’s so they didn’t blow up biggrin , made a change so you are not automatically opted in to GPU crunching (default is CPU on and GPU off), reduced the wu size to something manageable and now made the credits better (I’ll have some numbers in the morning). Not a bad week’s work for “Boinc Admin” their head honcho. applause applause applause
The best news is they will run on any CUDA compatible card. I started one on a 8500GT and it is 5+% complete in 3 hours. As you have 15 days to complete a wu, anyone can do it. I know you have one Dave ‘cause the 8500GT I am running came from the same IBP machine you have. laughing biggrin laughing

Very very interested in the numbers! smile I've got some 8500s too, and 15 days?? I like that! smile

What do you guys think about running BONIC as a 'service'? Do you run BOINC as such? So far, the GPUs can't process WUs as a service, but is a fix going to be available?

And when will they come up with a latest BOINC version that works with domain controllers! Am waiting for one for some time already! crying crying

I know you have one Dave ‘cause the 8500GT I am running came from the same IBP machine you have.

DM (or Chris) -- I have tried setting AQUA@home up on my IBP, but I get the message, "Can't use CUDA app for D-Wave's Adiabatic QUantum Algorithms (CUDA): Your computer has no CUDA device." Not sure how to proceed.

Thought I was going to bed. laughing What BOINC version are you running? If it's WCG you need to upgrade to 6.6.28 and nVidia driver 185.85. Reboot and look to messages ... you should see:

6/1/2009 3:51:00 PM CUDA device: GeForce 8500 GT (driver version 18585, compute capability 1.1, 256MB, est. 5GFLOPS)

Then you will be off and running. If you have problems we will help. Good to have you on board.

Not sure I have the same card. See my update to my earlier post about "NVIDIA GeForce 7050 / NVIDIA nForce 610i". I am going to bed and will look at it again tomorrow, but I don't think it is going to work on my system.

When I look at the information under Devices, Display adapters, I see, "NVIDIA GeForce 7050 / NVIDIA nForce 610i"

Dave, if that is truly the card you have it won't be able to do GPU crunching. The very minimum card that is listed is an 8400, and it's not a card they suggest you use.
I believe that is an integrated card (nForce 610i), and if so it's not gonna happen for you with that.

For those that like to O/C their video cards, don't try to O/C the core on a GTX 275 to 800 MHz.
It worked for about 10 seconds, then my computer crashed.
I have a raid 5 array that crashed with it, and now it's having to rebuild it. It's a 1 TB array, so my computer is going to be crawling for the next 2 days! crying
It seemed okay at about 750 MHz though, so in a few days I might try that again.

Thanks, Chris. Yes, it is part of the mobo, so you saved me some time this morning.

Thanks, Chris. Yes, it is part of the mobo, so you saved me some time this morning.

I'm confused. I thought we ordered the same machine? Mine came with an 8500GT card unless I have gone completely senile. Which is a possibility??? It's in a Dell machine now. I replaced the IBP MoBo so don't remember if it had an onboard card too. I have a couple of extra 8500's if you want one Dave. Sorry for the confusion.
No wu's finished in the night but the one on the 9800GT completed 60% during the night and the one on the 8500GT completed 21% during the night. So far I've had no problems. People should be reporting credit totals today in their board.

coffee

EDIT: I went back and looked at the IBP spec's and you are correct ... it had an onboard card. sad I guess the 8500's I have came out of the HP's. Sorry about that. I will be glad to send you a 8500 free of charge with a 100% No money back gaurantee!!! laughing biggrin laughing Meanwhile I will look for my senility medication. sad

Milkyway sent out some test GPU wu's but they ran in less than 1 second. Ooops. I didn't get any. Maybe more today??? Maybe bigger ones? biggrin

DM -- thanks, but I will pass on it. The paralysis in my hands prevents me from working on them. Maybe my next system.

What's your next system going to be Dave?
