Re: An OSX bug

Hello brinktastee,
Why not register on BOINC Trac? http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/ProjectPeople

Re: An OSX bug

All mac's IME...

I'd recommend crunching DDDT units as they seem to have a lower occurrence of stalls.

Re: An OSX bug

I have crashes on all wu's. Something has changed about 4 months ago as never had crashes until then. 5.4.9 worked great back then. I decided to shut down until the problem gets fixed. Might try another project to see if its boinc having the problems or WCG.

Re: An OSX bug

Switched over to a different project to see if I still had lockups on my mac pro, so far none. Could it be something in the WU's causing the problems?

Re: An OSX bug

I have had freezing issues on my iMac G5 2.0GHz for several months. I think it goes back as far as the Spring, but I can't remember for sure. Basically the same description, the work just freezes and nothing but a BOINC restart will make it work again. I keep thinking that an update will fix it, but not yet. I get uptimes that can last as long as several days, but other times it may only be several hours.

Re: An OSX bug

I have had hung tasks on a C2D iMac three times in the past 24 hours, and on a Mac Pro (8-way) twice in the past 24 hours.

Re: An OSX bug

I am on day 3 now with climate prediction and zero lockups. My only conclusion (this far) is it has something to do with WCG WU's, not boinc. Hope they can figure it out but until then, I won't crunch here. I'll check back to see if someone figures out the problem so I can start again.

Re: An OSX bug

We learn little if it is not specified which tasks DO cause the hangs.

DDDT, some seem to incur this but reports are sparse
HCC, had its first launch on Mac last week, so is this doing it?
FAAH known to be absolutely rock solid
HPF2, is known to crunch on without progress and can be restarted and on resume will usually pick up and finish at last checkpoint.

Cant discover on one lab machine what might have gone wrong for a particular science.... for that we need field info, if it has not come out in the Betas, we thus appreciate any detail that can be laid hands on in set up on condition of these freez-up events.
