Hello,
----------------------------------------I would like to installation the boinc agent on my computer's desk, but when I launch it, it displays the following messages:
In my mind the problem come from the Proxy, because I have to use a proxy to get a internet connection. My proxy data are right, because I can Firefox to surf on the web. So, I can see 2 options : - the proxy lock the boinc connection on the port 8080. (but not for Firefox, and I don't see how it is possible) - the problem come from your servers but I didn't see anything about yesterday. Do you have any solution to solve my problem ? I know, I can take work unit from my home computer and crunch it on my work computer but, it is not very soft to do. Thank to you ![]() |

hmmm Proxy.
----------------------------------------BOINC finds the reference site, so it knows it's fine except it does not seem to find port 443 open on outward traffic to WCG IP 129.33.89.134. This project is pretty much the only one using a secure port. There are many posts on these fora on proxy issues and given you are on 5.8.11 you might want to upgrade to either WCG recommendation 5.8.15 or Berkeley recommendation 5.10.13, which is *Not yet recommended by WCG*, but in practice stable and since yesterday promoted by Berkeley themselves (and bite them in the buns on a few occasions). Get it for windows here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php Added: I just see a note that 5.10.13 has already been followed by a new test version due some bug, so forget that and go with 5.8.15 for now.

Wilgard -- I think you may being blocked by a corporate firewall. Please check with your network's administrator to see that ports 80 and 443 are open for outbound traffic.

BOINC uses port 443 (SSL) not port 8080.
What proxy do you use? There is a known bug with BOINC for some proxies that may cause the behaviour you observed. I recommend you wait for 5.10.14 which should be released in a few days and will have the fix you need (an upgrade to one of the libraries that BOINC uses). |

Hi,
----------------------------------------I have installed the version 5.10.13, but the problem is always the same ... The BOINC's servers seem to be down, but we know that it's wrong. So, I suppose the problem come from the proxy, but I don't think, that the administrator wants to open the port 443 only from me :) . I saw into the file get_current_version.xml that BOINC use the port 8080 for the Internet connection. But, I don't find any port 443 into any files. Maybe one solution could be to change the port number from 443 to another one, but what ? Can I use the 8080 in place of 443 by some manner ?
As you can see, the trace is similar :( Thanks to you ![]() |

Earlier Didactylos stated:
BOINC uses port 443 (SSL) not port 8080. Did you not see that? |

Yes I saw it, but that is the problem in fact. I want to know if I can change the port 443 (SSL) by something else. Something else where I can be sure to get a connection to the boinc servers for getting work units.
----------------------------------------For the moment I get unit from my home computer and I crunch on my compagny desk, but it tiresome to do everysday. Thanks :) ![]() |

but I don't think, that the administrator wants to open the port 443 only from me :) . This still determines whether the corporation wants to allow permission for this. Maybe not, so far.
