Re: An OSX bug

Use 5.10.44 is my suggestion. The MAC and Linux version numbers jumped a few point numbers to align it with the Windows release.

Re: An OSX bug

Thank you. I take it that you recommend I download directly from the http://BOINC.berkeley.edu site? The download page on WorldCommunityGrid.org recommends the earlier version (that is, the one that I am already running now) for my computer. Also, as I understand, the memory leak only occurs in 10.5.x and I have 10.4.11.

Thank you,
Jonathan

Yes. We usually do not update the recommended BOINC version on WCG until experience shows that few people have problems with the more recent release. But if you are willing, using the latest release is helpful to demonstrate that it is safe and bug-free.

I was concidering switching to leopard soon but whats with the memory leak? Is it fixed with the latest version of boinc? I've been running tiger lately with near zero problems so if leopard is buggy, i'll hold off.

Re: An OSX bug

zombie67, do you run DDDT as well? With the latest upgrade to DDDT we have linked to a newer version of the BOINC API on Mac. If we see this problem go away with DDDT on Mac we can rebuild FAAH with the newer BOINC API.

Thanks,
armstrdj

Had a lock up on one of the new DDDT work unit today. crying crying crying
Running OS X 10.5.x PPC

edit: I happened again. And here is something odd, I had one do the same thing on my x86-Linux box today. Same exact thing the mac is doing. It just sits there doing nothing but taking up a processor.

Re: An OSX bug

Hello brinktastee,
I have pointed out your incident report. So far nobody else has reported the same problem.

If you reboot and it happens again, could you include some more detailed information in your next report?

Hello Lawrence.
Just to clarify...
So no one else is having problems with this on the mac or on linux...or both?

Re: An OSX bug

Hello brinktastee,
worried
For all I know, everybody is having problems but is too forbearing to report them. () tongue Hard to believe about Kremmen though!) I have waited for other people to report DDDT problems but . . . . Anyway, there are fewer members running DDDT on Mac PPC and Linux x86. There may be some reports coming in tomorrow.

Anyway, I wanted to reassure you that we were not ignoring you. By next week we should have a good feel for any bugs introduced in the new DDDT application.

Re: An OSX bug

FWIW, I just had a HPF2 task freeze up on a Tiger/intel mac, using 5.10.41. Quitting/restarting BOINC fixed it.

Re: An OSX bug

I woke up this AM to find a DDDT task frozen, app version 5.15. This was also on the same mac: leopard/intel/5.10.41/8-way mac pro.
