Hi CaparicaJr, Please consider: The paragraph facilitating installation without installation permission is against WCG policy (and any DC policy). Only install where you are the owner or obtain permission of the owner of the computer(s), without circumventing the Owners/It departments rules and restrictions. Running it unauthorized can do more harm than good, however well intended. thx Sorry Sekerob, I didn't know that... Please, ignore that paragraph =) ShadowBob, reading my own post again I have to agree with you. I think my idea wasn't clear there, so let me try to explain it better: The main idea is to make this a little more competitive. When I gave that example, what I was trying to say is that I wouldn't keep my PC's running if I didn't have WCG projects being done. At night I would probably shut them down, but I don't. I started doing this to win a bet with a friend: We decided to bet on who would do more points at the end of 6 months. No prize, just for the fun of doing it, and annoying each other. Of course not everyone would be that competitive, but this kind of competition would be very useful for all the projects. This could lead users to find a better configuration (i.e. which configuration works better for processing), maybe looking for other computers where they can install the software (from some relative, or something), or even telling friends and doing bets on it! (just kidding =) ). Some people might think "oh, but this guy doesn't even care about the project! He is just trying to beat his friend at a bet". Well, first of all, that's not true. And second, we all know (or at least should know) that the results given by our computers won't generate an instant cure (in the faah case). We're working on something that's not immediate. I don't know this for sure, but i believe most people that start working on WCG projects stop in few days, because there's no sense of reward. I'm not talking about a material reward or something like that. I'm talking about the feelling of accomplishment, the feelling of "I did something good". Since is pretty hard to provide this kind of thing in projects like these, my suggestion is to induce this "abstraction", making things a little more competitive, showing more detailed ranks, instigating people to reach lower positions, creating teams, telling friends. This is the kind of thing I was talking about.... Well, I hope this time I made myself clear =) cya CaparicaJr BOINCstats [Edit 1 times, last edit by CaparicaJr-DrMartinez at Feb 28, 2007 3:43:03 PM] |

like i said before
----------------------------------------something that would icrease speed of the grid, over nite is mutlitrreading the wcg agent, most pcs sold are dual cores, and quad cores are going big, this year, while intel just last month presented a workin 80(not8) core petaflop cpu, but all that means nothing unless the software is multitread and asking our little friends for help:) might help also http://www.cutepiggy.com/full_disclosure_project.html [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 2, 2007 8:01:40 AM] |

CaparicaJr-DrMartinez, It's good that you give that much effort on helping WCG, but I can't do what you do, and I hope you are not much doing that...
Cause the WCG doesn't want his project to cause the death of the planete, imagine millions of PC's turning up with nobody on it causes the warm up of the planet... I help WCG on turning my PC's just when I work on it, WCG is installed on it and I help only that time, at night I turn off my PC's cause I dont need them. Think of that. (sorry I'm french so I don't speack very well English) |

Who should we target as the best candidates to share FA@H project with and to encourage them to join and help us who are already crunching it?
[1] Principally of course: Those individual humans who are directly infected with the HIV virus. These humans have the label [ persons with AIDS : PWAs ]. For each PWA would be assisting science by their own direct efforts to EXTEND or SAVE their own human life. [2] This should be a NO-BRAINER: Enabling FA@H on the @WORK machines of the multitude of non-profit agencies within the HIV SUPPORTIVE CARE PROVIDER SERVICES NETWORK granted under the Ryan White Title I funding program. What's wrong with that? For the progressive outcome would be a progressive recycling of effort onto both factors. Enabling factor [2] returns much more informational / sharing product results about FA@H onto factor [1]. By showing PWAs the direct view and working knowledge of HIV drug resistance issues, prioritizing the importance of HIV drug adherence to their individual HAART regimen routine. ----- BUT the visibility on WCG of factor [2] is so scarce.... Few and far between..... You would think this would be ez eh? I am the creator of these teams in my attempts... FAILURE on a massive scale. Why is this? Local HIV Community Oakland CA USA Massive Mischievous Marvel of Molding Muck So today I decided to create an UPCOMING TEAM CHALLENGE: Call 2 the HIV SupportSrvs Netwk Points 09/01/2007 12/31/2007 1 Call your local area NETWORK OF HIV SUPPORTIVE CARE SERVICES and tell them about WCG and FightAIDS@Home..... and DIRECTLY ASK the hard question about why they are not present on the WCG in a humanitarian cause to be a supportive element of saving the lives of their PWA clients. If they are --- inform them of the UPCOMING TEAM CHALLENGE and have them join the challenge. If you get any "side tracking excuses" from them not to be on the WCG and joining FIGHTAIDS@HOME --- post the details to your effort here in this forum please. Thanks... I have to agree on the competition part mentioned above. While I will always help out WCG (My son had MD), it simply isn't as fun as Majestic, since I can't see my movement easily. I'm not saying hand out cash, but fun little things, or even a Featured Cruncher that posts a user submitted bio of active users once a month (I got one of those from Seti), just make it so you can only win that one once, and everyone has a chance at it. It's fun to have your name in lights for a week or a month.
At this point I'm down to 3 projects, Seti, Majestic (which runs alongside Seti and WCG) and WCG. Of the three, the one that runs without getting (too much anyway) in the way of WCG is the most fun, as I've been able to watch myself move up the list, and even see the country flags of the people around me. It also helps the community since people cheer on folks moving up the list, it's really kind of nice. Just my $0.02 worth... |

Was this original problem ever fixed or did he make one post and go away?
----------------------------------------HPF2 does have the reputation of going into long loops now and then. FAAH is better behaved. If you are getting no work for FAAH could your computer be too small? Are you running UD or BOINC?

Hey guys and gals, fellow crunchers, The latest news is encouraging. But our problem is - we NEED more members!! There are only 240K devices crunching, and not all are crunching FA@H. As somebody had already mentioned, imagine if we had the SETI@HOME's power! So, I wanted to open this new thread for us to brainstorm and share ideas as to how to recruit more people. How about posting to SETI forums to recruit some of them? Advertisement? Maybe we should do some fund-raising and post ads in our areas? What do you think? |

I cannot seem to figure out how to get the url to ad this to my projects. I am new at this. I have followed every link I can find and when it asks for the link to the project, I have no clue. Can you pass on the link so I can copy/paste or tell me where it is. Thanks!!!
