Hi,
----------------------------------------In the spirit of "Think globally; act locally.", I wanted to put an ad for FAH into my local community's newsletter. I would like to avoid doing what others have already done (and probably done *much* better) and get a 1/4 page worth of description of the project with a small reference to Boinc. Does anyone know where I can pick up a pdf or html file that has a good description?? Thanks in advance, Jay ![]() |

Have you looked at the Scripps website for FightAIDS@Home?

Hi - I'm new here, so pardon my ignorance (if it shows through)
As my points have increased I tend to check out the members around me and am surprised how many seem to be inactive (no results returned in thousands of hours). They did a lot of good work, then seemed to stop. Perhaps this is a great place to "mine" and see what to do to get them back to contributing. Are there any stats on how many active members/devices there are ? Could we send an email to the inactive folks to maybe encourage them back. Again, sorry if I'm being naive ! Cheers, Gary |

Hello Runnerman,
All registered members, whether active or inactive, receive the newsletter ( http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/newsletter/viewNewsletterMain.do ). At least, I think that they do. We have been so busy lately that we have not put out the newsletter for a while. Our intention is to add some more email contact in the teams this coming year. Right now we have no way for team members to email each other. We will probably change the statistics to show active members and computers. All this is just hypothetical, but the staff is planning what to do for the coming year. There just is not much I can state definitely until plans are made and announced. I would like to see lists of team members split up into 3 sections - Active, Inactive and Retired. Here is a URL that converts the daily hours in the Statistics to the equivalent number of computers running for 24 hours a day, which understates the actual number of computers contributing to the World Community Grid: http://vspx27.stanford.edu/DCcomparison.html Lawrence |

Or we could all buy dual- or quad-core processor based computers! (Just kidding)

But seriously, I posted a little ad for WCG in two other forums. Also, I am getting a Core 2 Duo E6600!

We need just to convince the people from others projects to join FA@H! m xmas There are a lot of projects worth crunching, I don't think, that we should try to recruit their members. To extend the power of distributed computing, we need to convince additional folks. ![]() |

Again, maybe I'm naive, but does anyone know what happens to members who get 8,10, 12, 15,000 points and then stop cold turkey (sorry for the Christmas pun) ? I would think that they are the most viable people to get back into the fold. Clearly we don't have nearly the number of active members as registered members, but many have posted lots of results, then gone dormant.
I certainly don't want to poach people from other projects. This is my first introduction to grid life and I would be pissed if someone tried to poach me ! My big question is why do people quit ????? Merry Ho Ho, Gary |

Many people almost quit by accident. They rebuild their system, or get a new computer, and simply forget to install WCG.
To combat this, WCG now send a single reminder email if a member doesn't do anything for two months. |
