Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Just removed everything but a older ssd drive and a cd drive. Reinstalled Ubuntu as a complete system. Currently running on regular cores, no hyper threading. Shut off turbo boost too. Seems to run ok on regular cores but tried last night to run all threads, dies within an hour. Will see how it goes. My guess either the cpu's or motherboard is going out. Its about 9 years old. Looking on ebay for cheap processors and motherboards. Sandy bridge era seem cheap.

Have you checked the temperatures both with and without hyperthreading ?

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Hardware info showing 36C to 42C without hyperthreading. Will wait until tomorrow to switch it and see what happens. Want to see if it will crunch through the night.

That is downright low. My I7-2600K is normally in the 60C range.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Ran all night without issues. I do shut off wifi, which could be an issue but not sure. That thing blinks constantly when on. Just bumped it up to 18 wu's crunching. 49C so far. Will monitor it during the day and see how it does. 81C is max temp according to CPU world when I looked.
When I have more time to move it to a smaller case, may remove the cpu's and put fresh thermal paste. Never had to do that before but will see how the temps go.

So far, so good. This is with hyperthreading I presume.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Yes. Have not turned on turbo mode yet. Doing one thing at a time for a day so I can identify the issue should it arise. Last will be to leave my wireless active overnight.
