That's about the same price as wally world.
----------------------------------------Question, do most crunchers add on systems during the winter months and then cut back on how many they run during the summer months? Winter: October through April Summer: April through October At least that's the way snowbirds see the seasons :o) [Edit 1 times, last edit by gta198 at Jun 11, 2016 5:10:37 PM] |

Winter: October through April Summer: April through October At least that's the way snowbirds see the seasons :o) Some do, just because of the heat the systems produce and how much electricity they are using. There is no use running the air conditioner cooling down the place and then running some systems to heat it up at the same time. If you are only running one system it would probably not make much difference, but if you are running several, it does make a difference. The extra heat is welcome in the winter, but not so in the summer. Cheers

My dual xeon system is in my bedroom. Works great for warm winters as it puts out allot of heat. Like joe said, when air conditioner is needed in the summer, big systems just negates the air conditioner. Older systems produce more heat too. Would like those big multiprocessor 18 core chips but they just cost to much. Intel has no competition so they can charge what they want, which is a shame. Had my eye on the new i7 10 core but for 1500 bucks, intel can choke on it. To rich for my blood.

Two of my servers were down. My Dell T7400 started to go into random restarts all on its own. When it does this, the BIOS requires a manual intervention to continue. I haven't yet figured out how to bypass this. So, if it restarts, it just sits there until I check it again. I reduced it to 2 cores and it stopped resetting so I thought it might be a heating problem. I took it down and blew it out, but there was hardly any dust in it or in the heat sinks. I did clean off all the old thermal paste and apply new thermal paste before reseating the heat sinks. So far I have been able to run it on all 8 cores again. We'll see if it hold up over night.
----------------------------------------My Dell 2950 now refuses to boot at all, so it may have finally given up the ghost. It does not even get through the initial BIOS screen. I will tackle that beast tomorrow or Friday. It is not really too efficient, so I may just retire it and call it good. It has given me over 20 run time years and over 45000 results so I should not complain too much. Cheers
