The Malaria WUs in WCG make my i5 laptop run 7°C warmer than the Malaria Control project WUs. My desktop runs about 4 degrees F running Malaria. Also loose about 10 minutes actual time vs CPU time under ubuntu. Loose less than a minute under Win7.

Yup, but we won't be hearing from her. She can stay as silent as a church mouse, we just appreciate the crunching. Cheers

50 in the member list. That is cool. I've wondered if we would ever get there.

Never tried those another applications. So usually do not run Boinc with the one being literally on my lap There is not anything like dust on heat sink, I open my craptops regularly and dust them well. One reason might be that like too keep indoor temp around +26'C (+79'F), I'm low fat model myself, so have a tendency to get chilly ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by ultimaThule at Dec 4, 2011 8:36:04 AM] |

I could see how your lap would be warm. Is a temperature that warm normal ? I would guess it is either not a very well designed case, or the fan is anemic or a combination of the two. Somehow there seems to be a lack of airflow to dissipate the heat. Somebody in the forums may have a solution. Cheers

Suggest you reapply thermal paste. What kind of laptop is it? Maybe install a fan control software to bump the fans higher. Seems awfully warm.

Nutmelter! ![]() Ja ! Good one. I found out how long a flash drive will probably work as the only drive on a system running exclusively HCC. One month. I finally found another hd and have installed that. Same OS again - Mint 11. Hopefully this hd does not croak out as fast. I had two identical systems running HCC except one had the flash drive and the other had a hd. The one with the hd was slightly faster, by about 1 to 2 %. Must be a bottleneck in the transfer rate I suppose. Also hello to to knitter who has joined us. Cheers

For those of you running Linux 64, guess I doesn't matter what flavor, need a little assistance. I'm running ubuntu 64 11.4 on one of my crunchers. Looks like GFAM, DSFL and HCMD2 seem to loose anywhere between 5 to 12 minutes of actual time vs CPU time. My win7 64 rig looses only about a minute. Is this normal? Starting to wonder if my hard drive is having issues. This rig has a xeon x5650 hex with 12gb ram. Suggestions?
