OK. You got me. What is it ??? cheers To be honest, I actually even do not know for sure. My best guess is that it is part of old time phone centrals, not as much as phone as consumer good.. More like small part of something very big.... Nokia use to produce this stuff also before it was spitted two, another half in now known as NSN (Nokia Siemens Network)..... Well, originally Nokia did produce rubber boots.... Long way to go to produce blue screens..... ![]() |

Bearcat, I just wanted to add that my good wishes are coming to you from Iowa for your surgery and a quick and complete recovery. I looked up Minnesota Spine on the web, and you certainly seem to have found the best experts to go to. Is there any way that you'll be able to use a notebook computer while in the hospital? I'm remembering when I was in the hospital a couple years ago how much difference it made to be able to use the Internet, keep in touch with friends by email, etc. I'll have probably have my iPad, but for sure my iPod touch. No way can I stay disconnected from the net. Might miss the first 2 days at most. Supposed to be up to 5 days in the hospital but could get out sooner if I can prove the basic things required for discharge, (walking, small steps, going to the bathroom on my own and eating). I think twin cities spine is one of the best in Minnesota. Did allot of research before committing to them. Should go well. Appreciate all the support from my team. Means allot. Thank you all.

Congrats on the new card. I'll be interested to hear how it does. I'll probably be asking your advice on crunching with ATI next month. My husband's netbook bit the dust, and we ordered an HP Pavilion dm1z to replace it. The dm1z has the new AMD Fusion Zacate chip -- a dual-core CPU and an 80-core GPU on one die -- all for 18 W TDP. It won't be fast, but it's supposed to be a surprisingly capable little machine. My husband and I will share it, as I need an AMD Fusion testbed for work. The Zacate chip can take the latest Catalyst driver, so I think it should be able to do GPU crunching -- we'll see! I keep reading that ATI cards actually are better at crunching than Nvidia cards. Maybe fewer BOINC projects have ATI applications because OpenCL code is harder to write than CUDA. The new machine isn't scheduled to arrive until about Mar. 25 -- long wait but maybe good timing as the 25th is my husband's birthday! Congrats on the new machine. Are you a software developer that requires this platform? Will be interesting how well it crunches. I think you will like ATI. I like the software that let's you adjust the power without doing it the hard way. CCC is pretty cool. Am hoping everyone will jump on openCL. Think we would see better optimization with everyone on board.

Just sold my dual 2.5 harpertown rig. So am down 8 cores. Looking to find some hex cores for my westmere rig to make up the difference. Anyone interested in a pair of Xeon E5640's (2.66ghz) westmere processors? Great processors.

Got the new card installed, along with another 12GB of ram. GPU crunching was taking 2:14 minutes on a ATI 5670. With the 6950, 44 minutes. Currently on default settings. Want to make sure my wu's get validated before bumping up the power. Boy is this a huge card. But after looking at the new 6990, this one is a little smaller. That 6990 will be a screamer, plus a electricity guzzler. Mine definitely puts out more heat. Had to use both power connectors from the psu just to power this puppy. Looking at my display, what a difference. So far am very pleased.

Does Monticello need to fire up another reactor to keep you going ? Cheers Just about. Need one more tweak (hex core) and should be complete. Then I'll call the nuke plant to turn up the power a little. ![]()

Well, they said we were only supposed to get 1 to 2 inches of snow, but it looks like we got 4 to 5 inches ( 10 to 13 cm) . Once again just the fluffy kind, but it is still snowing.
----------------------------------------We had a visit from the pileated woodpecker today. Don't see him too often, but when he comes around he hammers some good sized holes in the tree. Cheers

Just came back from pine river. Roads were a bit slick. Cars and trucks in the ditch. Think sleet came with this stuff. Pretty greasy. Must of received at least 4 inches. Just hope the big one stays south Wednesday.

Down here in Apple Valley, we've only got maybe 1-1.5 inches in the past 24 hours.
