confused Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Yeah, there's quite a bit of concern in the Open Source community about the future of Qt with Nokia's new MSFT centric approach to phones.

Öääh, I actually have some diffrent kind of consern, more like kekkoslovakia concern on my mind....

Forest industy use to be back bone of this nation and it was heavily driven down on last decay.
Seventy percent of those who end up unemployment, have not found any another job....

Those fellows from Nokia will probably get job from somewhere Europe, so they will take their families with them and so this nation will loose spearhead and next generation from it.

This will lead raise of national socialists. It has already rocket from very small party (one percent on 2000) to third largest party with 16,6%.

If they get to power, they will return old legislation against private owning, like property tax. And there is already state of emergency -law that demand to hand over everything that you have to government if demanded.
These together will make private owning absolutely impossible here.

I think I will move to Holland, pot is legal there.... Ou s*it how I would like to have some now....

It would turn into the wild west if this would ever happen in the USA. Sad that this kind of crap still happens around the would minus a few communist and Islamic countries.

That's not helping.

Look, we all have our own desires as to how we use our CPU/GPU time. I'm sure we're all fine discussing the pros and cons of each, but in the end, it's nobody's business but mine what I decide to do with my processors. (Likewise for everyone else.)

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Oh, I'm sorry didn't realize you owned this thread. You're gonna have to learn to get along with your fellow crunchers, unless you can remove me from YOUR thread.

If you look at the title of this thread and it's location in the "Teams" forum, it's pretty clear what it is intended for.
Of course we can't stop anyone from posting here, but I'd like to think we can all voluntarily abide by the spirit intended.

Well said. I do not know what particular use a multimillion digit number of any kind might have, but it may be useful for something which may make life better. In any case there is always the spinoff effect which is all of the other knowledge which is gained and things which are invented/discovered in the quest for what some may say is esoteric knowledge. Perhaps a programming technique is developed in number theory which has applications in helping with proteomics research. Who knows ?

At any rate let us not take any of the bait in potential flame wars. Politeness and civility are still respected in many circles.

Crunch on.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Just got done this weekend with the 50 hour trivia contest hosted by St. Cloud State. As usual, the team I was on finished in the 50's out of 71 teams. Just like here, some teams have many members and some only a few. We had only a few, so we think we did respectably. For several of the hours we were down to one player - me - so the othe members could get some sleep. It is always fun, but not as much fun as it was in the early years -pre internet time. Now it is mostly how well you can use the internet searches, although they are getting better at internet proofing the questions.

This year they had a speed round of audio questions where they had separated the musical tracks from some music and just played one or two of the tracks, guitar or horn part. I could not recognize any of the songs. You needed to give both song title and artist. One of them was a small clip from "Hey Jude" by the Beatles. I could not even do that one ! Maybe from time to time I will throw out some the questions they asked.

Cheers

Sounds fun -- but exhausting for a small team! Maybe next year your team can recruit Watson... tongue
