Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Took a look this morning and it's still throttling. My other dual E5420 8 core is pretty much maxed at 100% with a slight dip to 95%. starting to tick me off. Both are running Ubuntu 10.10.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Do you guys think that it may be more relevant to spend time crunching for diseases and things that could affect us in the near future, rather than something seemingly useless like finding prime numbers?

Not trying to be negative here, but what good is finding another prime number gonna do for our near future?

I, for one, spend my resources mostly for diseases...Once those are cured and my lifespan extended because of it, I can use my much more powerful future computer to solve problems like finding extraterrestrial intelligence and prime numbers.

Just my thoughts.

First of all it is very rude to come into a team thread and post this type of message and not be a member of this team. Very bad form.
Secondly, WCG does not support GPUs, PrimeGrid and GPU grid does. I do both.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Calm down brink. Yeah, was rude for a comment like that, especially coming from another team. Your explanation was right on the mark.

Ryan22h, until WCG supports GPU computing, many of us crunch something that's stable and has some kind of benefit. Suggest you head over the prime grid to see why that project has ALLOT of folks crunching. Instead of questioning why we do this, come up with a solution to crunch WCG with our GPU's. Not all gpu's are created equal. Mainly, many other GPU capable projects do not allow ATI GPU's. Since I use ATI, I will remain at prime grid. Suggest you go educate yourself on prime grid and other projects that do allow all gpu's to crunch.

biggrin Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Oh, I'm sorry didn't realize you owned this thread. You're gonna have to learn to get along with your fellow crunchers, unless you can remove me from YOUR thread.

I was simply stating my thoughts, which I'm entitled to do. Sorry if Im not on your team, **Edited for intolerance** TKH And I'm not "on another team", I have no desire to compete with you. I'm an individual who wishes to benefit humanity.

I know exactly what gpu crunching is and I am as "educated" as I want to be on primegrid and all the other distributed computing projects, which is why I'm telling you how I'm using my resources wisely IMHO...

On a sidenote, I will be one of the first to utilize gpu crunching on WCG once it becomes available. Here's to wishing that you'll find all the prime numbers in existence!!

Cheers!!
