Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I should be getting my RMA replacement for my Antec Power Supply from UPS today. It will be good to get my HTPC up and running again, it's been out of commission since the end of December. Antec didn't have the TPQ 850W in stock so they're replacing mine with a 1000W instead!

That's a nice free upgrade.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Ah ! Cold weather is so much fun. Yesterday I had -22F(-30C) in the morning and wouldn't you know it, the heat lamp in the chicken shed was out. The chickens had knocked the plug out of the socket. The waterer was frozen solid. I normally change the waterers every morning and with the heat lamp working, the side by the heat lamp stays open. I had last checked it about 7:00 PM and it was working then.

This morning should be the last of the cold stuff for a while. -8F(-22C) this morning, but the warmup is on the way. Should be close to 32F(0C) by Saturday and above that for highs for the next week. With the warmup I can switch from the 250 watt bulb to 125 watt bulb. Hopefully after the next bill both gas and electric will be much less.

The good thing about the weather is the systems I have running in one of the outside sheds probably run very efficiently with the below zero temperatures. smile

Crunch on !

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

It sure will be nice having temps above the freezing point. Looks like possibly 40 degrees by Wednesday. Think allot of states would have flooding if a total thaw started now. Spring is going to be interesting.
Got the new chip in this morning. Just installed it about an hour ago. laughing Going good so far. Did see something a bit odd. Under the sensors app, only 6 cores show but all 8 main sensors show fine. Everything checks out fine. All 8 cores are happily crunching away now. Re did the sensors-detect and restarted but still does this. Will have to keep an eye on it.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Seeing another issue since adding another processor. With one processor, CPU was maxed just about 100%. since adding the second, processors speed is all over the place. It's like ubuntu is throttling it. Went through the bios to see if there was anything that needed changing. Didn't find anything. Anyone have any suggestions to get ubuntu to not throttle?

Glad you folks are getting a break from the intense cold. As usual, we got a milder version of what you had -- it was -15 F actual temperature when I went out to the bus corner Thurs. morning.

We've just hit +32 now. I'm ready to go out in shorts. tongue

I'm thrilled that we can start melting some of this snow now rather than all of it waiting until Mar and Apr. My husband and I are fortunate to live near the top of a hill, but in 2008, part of our town about half a mile from us was under water for weeks.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Thanks for the link. Tried the command to max cpu's. Helped some but still throttling a bit. Will let it alone for a bit and see how it does. Thanks again.

Congrats! applause
Which GPU found them, yours or your sons? I hope I can get a better card next month. Not sure what AMD did but the new drivers are working great. Running all threads, plus have the GPU almost maxed out.
