Hey, might any of the rest of you want to point your GPUs to PrimeGrid for the next 20 hours? There's a big challenge going on over there and we're in 26th place out of 328 teams. 20 hours to go...

I don't think it includes GPU. It is the Proth Prime Search (LLR) which is CPU only (as far as I know).
I got all my power pointed there right now. After I found that Prime Number I decided to do the Challenge. I did not tell anyone else because I did not want anyone to be mad at me for doing another project with my CPUs other than WCG. ![]() |

Oh crumb, so the GPU Proth Prime Sieve doesn't count? I'm doing that with 2 GPUs and was hoping I was contributing to the MN Crunchers success in the challenge.
----------------------------------------Oh well, it's fun (and a ridiculous amount of BOINC points). I like running Prime Grid on GPU because it doesn't need a dedicated CPU core so I can be running WCG full tilt at the same time. ![]() |

Prime numbers are fascinating. I am not sure exactly what they might be good for, especially the really big ones with millions of digits. I know they are used in encryption processes and there are some underlying principles which may have some far reaching consequences but for all practical purposes they are probably a lot more useful to theoretical mathematicians. Someone may be able to use them to make a better world, but probably not in the immediate future. katejacy: "Oh crumb!" It has been years since I heard that particular expression. I like it Cheers

My mom still says that a lot. I wonder if it's a Minnesota saying?

Finally broke down and bought a PSU for my son's Dell 8100. It has some really good reviews and it's "80 gold" rated. 51% off. They are having a huge PSU sale. That place was PACKED out! Good sign for the economy. Plan to provide electricity to the house? That's a big one. Never heard of the maker. Let us know how it works out.

Here is some real world test I read before I bought it. Review It is very efficient, 87%-90%. Over it's lifetime I figure it could pay for itself compared to the junk Dell put in it. It may take 10 years... ![]() |

Well, the Prime Grid Challenge has ended and preliminary scores show Minnesota Crunchers 27th. I think I got 25th. Now pointing the canons back at WCG.
