Well we got started on the lot over the weekend - trees are cleared and the excavators are starting work this week. Check my blog for some photos.

Anand has their Holiday System Builder's Guide up. There's a really cheap quad core system here:
----------------------------------------http://www.anandtech.com/show/4025/holiday-2010-system-builders-guide/2 Only $375 for a complete quad core system! Could probably drop in a Phenom X6 instead for an extra $100 or so too.

It should be interesting seeing you build it. Interesting build on the system. Storage is getting so dirt cheap I hardly believe it. You could leave out the optical drive and and just go with a USB unit so you can move it from system to system when you need it, but that is pretty cheap too. Cheers

Is anyone running Ubuntu 10.10? Thinking of switching from 10.04 but want to see if any issues. 10.04 (lucid) is working great. Getting ready to turn my new rig into a dual boot and run Ubuntu 10.10.

Our group at work runs Ubuntu and my co-worker upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 and had nothing but problems. He did an upgrade and nothing was working so he just wiped it out and did a fresh install and still his video needed a lot of tweaking. He had problems too with VMWare workstation and the newer kernel. I'm staying at 10.04 LTS for now on my workstation. |

Got to admit, lucid runs awesome on my harpertown box. My westmere box should be dry by morning so will put lucid on it as a dual boot. Win7 isn't to bad but Linux seems to be a better OS to crunch with. If I didn't have 3 boxes crunching now, would snag the i7 deal. Still trying to find some cheap harpertown to replace my woodcrest chips.
