biggrin Re: Minnesota Crunchers

What are you on, fibre optic? That's fast! Wish mine was this fast. crying

I cheated, that test is from work. Home connection is 10mb/2mb charter cable.

That's cold to do that. Was drooling at those speeds. Wouldn't want to pay that bill though.

I'm sure the bill for our fat internet pipe here pales in comparison to the tens of millions in revenue we generate every day through that same pipe.

I don't participate in the AIDS projects here. This is a good article why: http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2010/12/027813.php

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Great article. Thanks for pointing this out. It would be nice for funding to be distributed by most serious (getting more funds) to the not to serious (less funds). But research should never just stop on any particular one.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Hello fellows smile

Some computer stuff.... 4G network was launched here on two zip code area.
Should expand to hold metropolitan are on 2011, and technically I'm on there.
Cannot say how fast, but sure is expensive as h*ll, 46€/m.

I have 3G 15,90€/m and this is fast enough to watch TV on live.
Quality is not best possible (60min program -> 1GB file) but it is enough for me and I can always save to HD if want to watch something on HQ..

I have been always on fastest category since GSM time, but I think that this time I will not upgrade to 4G untill they shut down 3G network, or prices of these two will come equal..

You are right. That is quite a jump in price from 3G to 4G. That price almost surely must come down. Hopefully as it becomes more widespread this will happen. If you can already view live TV, I agree, why upgrade.

No 4G here of which I am aware. Supposedly coming in the future though.

Winter has now come in earnest. We have about 6 in(15cm) of snow and it will be -5F(-20C) tonight.

Cheers

Darn, this is something that I'm really envy...
Here is more snow but temperature has rise to crappy level again.. Here was few artic days, but now again more like Mediterranean weather, hardly even frost..

Öbaut 3G/4G...

Living next to protectorate is wonderful on that matter that there is not lot users on same link, here 3G connections are sold 0 - 7,2Mb and how much band wide you receive, will depend how many users are sharing same link...
So on that matter I have optimal place, I usually always get more that 5Mb...

On the another hand, if my only link goes down, then I do not have connection at all.
There is another link on half a mail way, but it is on another side of that protected hilltop so, might as well be on moon...

So I actually have two 3G connection from different operators, last time when Sonera went down, it did take hold week before they replace physical link.
Do not mind, my boss pays my one Internet connection, so I still need to pay only another one biggrin

Lucky guy. Wish my boss would pay half of my internet connection. Not going to happen. I do have a company cell phone, but only because I am basically on-call 24x7, which I do not really mind.
