It will happen, sooner or later. laughing

I think clear is part of clearwire but not sure. Clearwire is in St cloud. I looked at them when they came to town. From what I have heard, your limited on uploads. Few told me there bill got jacked up when they exceeded a certain amount. Don't know the details. Presume they didn't pay attention to what the particulars on the contract. You will have to let us know how well it works in bad weather (if it's like satellite). Do you have any limitations or do you have an unlimited plan?

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Oh I will be keeping a close eye on my bill and the reliability of the service. I got the unlimited service. I did have problems getting my old number ported over. Finally got it after 2 weeks.
All tech support is in India (live chat or phone). <-- angry

I have Clearwire. The service has not been affected by weather. However it is affected by the leaves on the trees. During the height of the summer my signal strength is about 50%. Now with no leaves it is 100%. I don't think I have any limits to uploads or downloads, but if there is I have never been charged more. The bill is the same every month. Just the other day they had an outage of about 24 hours, but that was the only one other than a few 5 minute hiccups now and then. The modems are a little bit fragile, I am on my third one, but they have replaced them when they have become defective. Overall I am satisfied with their service. At the time I got them they were the only broadband service which served my area, although I now would have a couple more choices. Hope Clear does well for you Brink.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

With 4G starting to grow, I hope it gets competitive enough to make the land line folks like comcast, frontier and the rest to reduce the prices. What kind of prices are you folks paying for unlimited service? Hope 4G gets up in St cloud in the near future. Seems only the big cities are getting now.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Not bad. Is the VOIP required or optional? What are your ul/dl max speeds? My DSL speeds are ok but sometimes lag. 2 miles outside Clearwater (pretty much at max length for dsl) but hope to see the fibre optic being laid in the near future. America is lagging in high speed for rural users. Think that's why 4G and such are pushing into the rural areas.

Of course the bundled packages are the better deal but if you don't need phone then the price is around 45 bucks for the unlimited.
Here are some speedtest.net and google traceroute data.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

This sounds like something I would be interested in. I'm paying $40 a month now for 1.5M DSL. For $5 more, plus hardware, I could get a substantial improvement. Let us know how things go after you've had it for a while.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Clearwire: $24.95 per month. 1.5mb service (although i have yet to see that speed). No modem fee. No phone service. No website. Just access. Plain and simple.

Maxwireless: Same price, same speed. $175.00 upfront fee for setup etc. I believe. Competition from these guys lowered my bill from Clearwire from $37.00 per month

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

My DSL isn't the greatest. Using speed test, my DL= 2.06 Mbps UL=0.26 Mbps. Hopefully some other company will challenge frontier and set up shop in Clearwater.
