Re: The recruitment thread!

So I was trying to think of ways to drum up some more recruits... when someone previously mentioned the teen market, MySpace instantly came to mind. What about an active WCG/FightAIDS@Home profile and/or group on MySpace that really spreads the word?

Same goes for Friendster or whatever other popular sites there are out there.

I imagine that a really successful MySpace group could make a big impact..

I'm not too good at making material for that kind of thing. So maybe someone could make a profile like that?

Re: The recruitment thread!

Wow! We're really getting around.

Should we follow this up with another segment? Or maybe get the first segment translated into other languages? If I look hard enough I'm sure I could find someone to translate it and read it front of my webcam in French.

Evening Dagarath, I have done a handfull of UD installs lately and people like the video. Handing them the video to look at has been far more successfull than me ranting in their ear. When the Cancer Research Project starts up I will be posting a letter in our local paper explaining what we are up to and how to get hooked up to the WCG. A WCG promotion only this time round. I will also offer to install WCG for anyone needing help as I meet many people willing but wary of touching anything.

Lastly, The York Peninsula is a big area and many shop owners have shown interest in promoting the video by way of putting it on display. What I think we need is a design for the cd cover and an information paper. Put those two things in a display stand and we will get some attention. I realy like David,s Einstein.jpg as a cd cover! Good Job and Cheers applause

Re: The recruitment thread!

Hi Orakk,

Very kind of you to help people out with UD installs! UD is so perfect for a lot of people. It's nice to hear the video is selling people on WCG, thank you biggrin

A smallish CD campaign limited to one's local area would be an interesting project. It could attract a lot of new members to a team. I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to put David's Einstein on a CD. I wouldn't hestitate either to put something on the CD that directed the new member to a particular team wink

Re: The recruitment thread!

Someone ahead on the publication curve for Distributed Computing:
Worldwide, 690,000 help computer effort

In this publication Google Computing is mentioned. As far as I can see, they only support Folding@Home at the moment and they will add more projects. Can WCG or IBM contact Google and see if they can get the WCG supported by Google Computing?

I went to this article and checked out the google compute that they are talking about, and at the bottom of the page in the little blue box I found something that was interesting.
---------
Thank you for your interest in Google Compute. The latest versions of the Google Toolbar do not support the Google Compute feature. If you would like to support the Folding@home project, please download the official Folding@home client.
---------
I also checked to see if Folding@home could be added to their toolbar, and no it can't be. They don't have what they call a widget to add to the toolbar. So currently their not supporting Folding@home either.

these projects are really awsome and for a good cause! They're easy to get into, and fun, most projects have teams set up and such, and distribute points for completed work.. google for BOINC, United Devices, Folding@Home, www.worldcommunitygrid.org

It's for a great cause, might save a loved one of yours someday.

I signed up at www.worldcommunitygrid.org immediately after seeing this video. We *can* make a difference. It doesn't cost a dime.

Dagorath it's working biggrin

Thanks to kaleb0 and beckley22 for your kind words

and thanks for joining us hugs
