I hope Fred B likes the banner. ![]() V_R, I'm sure I love it (with the minor issue that I can't see it - but then Bill's stats are missing too, and I can't load the PNG in a separate window, the server times out) One of those "moments" again, perhaps, anyway I will check back but I can already say it's perfect, and many thanks ![]() ![]() ![]() FB |

But hey, I'll be proud if we can make it into the top 200 by our anniversary. I don't know if you guys know of NEWEGG.COM, but they sell hardware parts just about as cheap as the manufacturers directly. They are having an 8 hour sale today which includes an Intel P4 Prescott 64 bit processor @ 2.66GHz for $103. Don't worry, they have these kinds of sales all the time. I bought one just because I liked the price. It's not a superfast processor, but it's certainly enough for general home use. As a warning, if you're going to use it for WCG, don't use the cooler that comes with it, it won't keep up with that CPU at 100% all the time, you'll need to buy aftermarket cooling. I didn't buy any coolers today because none were on sale. They did have a decent board for those chips, though, at $49, which means you can build a decent 64 bit machine for about $375. Let's see what we can do to attack that top 50, eh? ![]() FB |

It's time for another update, since the HomeBrewers have just met another of our goals -- making it into the top 400 before the end of March -- and we did it with five days to spare. At the same time, we also passed the seven year mark today for total computing time. Oddly I notice that Fred's stat banner has already updated, whereas, as of this posting, mine still has not -- even though we are both using the same stat generator. No big deal; I'm sure mine will update shortly. Very curious, though.
Cheers. Bill Velek |
