Re: ATTENTION: HomeBrewers team members

Thanks for the bump, V_R.

Another milestone for the HomeBrewers. Today is the first time that we have ever posted over 30,000 points for one day (we just posted 31,262). Naturally, every active member on the team helped to contribute to that, but I do want to mention that we also gained one new member today -- vfrdirk -- who has 5 devices and contributed a whopping 1,853 points in a single day to push us over the top. I hope we can manage to stay in the 30's from now on so that we can make better headway against some of the teams that we have been slowly catching ... or fending off.

Thanks, vfrdirk, for joining our team, and a warm welcome to you. We don't have balloons and fancy certicates to offer our members, like a few other teams, but I trust that that won't make a difference.

Anyway, today's posting helps alot in our race with BOINC@Australia; they only gained 4,098 points on us today, so if we can hold it to that amount each day, then we have a 53 day lead on them and should allow us to beat them into the top 300.

Tomorrow we should jump up to 6 years of computing time, right before our 4 month anniversary. AWESOME!!! biggrin

Cheers.

Re: ATTENTION: HomeBrewers team members

Congrats on getting over 30,000 Bill - you really are motoring on now, and still picking up members cool

Like you, we don't have fancy ballons or certificates either - but what we both have as smaller teams is the close personal touch where everyone is equally important - I'm not sure you get that with some of the big teams where the little guys just get lost in the numbers.

Re: ATTENTION: HomeBrewers team members

Besides that, it's hard to get suitable competition. We don't stand a chance against the really big teams, but we're now larger than most other teams so they don't present much competition, either. Since BOINC@Australia is constantly gaining on us, I tried to make a race out of that, but it doesn't look like that's going to last either. Something about them using a different grading system and easing up; it's in the BOINC@Australia team thread.

Another problem is that there isn't a way to send a challenge to most teams, because very few of them post here.

I guess when we finally make it into the top 100, progress -- if any -- will be so slow that it will be boring. sad Heck, I hate to think that the most interesting thing our team will be able to do at that point is make banners and post balloons and such. Besides, I'm not adept at graphics. Graham, on MOT, does excellent work, so I don't blame him because he's so good at it, but most of the 'party favors' don't appeal to me.

As for performance, HomeBrewers slipped a bit yesterday, but managed to jump right back up into the 30's today. biggrin

Cheers.

Re: ATTENTION: HomeBrewers team members

What's your current growth rate? I've gathered a few statistics for overtaking predictions, and if you want I'll see what the HomeBrewers are tipped to do.

We really shouldn't have to provide our own certificates, but now I've gone to the trouble I'm quite proud of the results. I had help, of course.

Thanks. I guess that can be measured a couple of ways. I never use the "Average Points per Calendar Day" stats provided by WCG; they are worthless and might as well be removed. ATTENTION ANY ADMINISTRATOR! Averages based on the total records of a team are not nearly as accurate as a limited number of the most recent records, especially when a team has changed substantially. For instance, today, HomeBrewers is listed with an "Average Points per Calendar Day" of 11,971 ... but we haven't posted that low in 52 days, and have consistently posted more than twice that amount for the past ten days. A more accurate and useful figure would be something like "Average Points per Day, Last Fifteen Days" ... and for the HomeBrewers that is 26,018. ADMINISTRATORS: Could something like that be added as an additional stat?

Anyway, because we just acquired a high producer just a few days ago, that 26k figure is now probably a bit low, and I think we can now safely use maybe 28k/day for our growth rate. I don't have much trouble making projections myself, but certainly won't object to any input from others.

What do people do with the certificates? Hang them in their office if they're at work? I guess that could be a recruitment tool ... if someone asks about it. Other than that, I don't see the attraction. Whatever floats someone else's boat; that's their business. smile

Cheers.

*prods the numbers*

I didn't think you'd ever make it to the top 100, but you've grown quite a bit of late. Keep it up, and you should arrive eventually. You won't get much further than that, though.

I have noticed that most of the existing team members don't participate in the forums, which doesn't attract potential members to WCG or the team - the new member has to be dedicated to the cause and willing to stop here, though there are a lot of other good projects available.

I do have a question about how to alter my sig (as posted earlier in this thread). I attempted to use the process I saw in one of your mails, Bill, and instead of the logo, all I got was a link at the bottom of my message. Can you update me on the proper procedure for creating a signature block?

thanks
