I always supplied the <hostid> from the C:\ProgramData\BOINC\client_state.xml file.

Perhaps they can backtrack it via the CPID...


Thanks. Found it. Too bad that the client doesn't show things like that or the computer name for that matter.

Before I found it in that XML file, I was using the BOINCstats site to tell me what the HostID was.

I'm glad you were able retrieve! Also, I found humor in your PC namings! :D

O, but it does, if you dare looking a little bit further.

To reproduce:
  • Start or restart the client;
  • Open Boinc Manager;
  • Open the Event Log in Boinc Manager, scroll back to the beginning and … hey presto!

    As an alternative, you can find the <hostid> in the file "sched_request_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml" in the BOINC-directory;
    and you can also find the event log messages in the system logfile on Linux, e.g. /var/log/messages or /var/log/syslog.

    Hello,

    Another quick update: My Windows computer is still missing from "My Devices", but from the "client_state.xml" file in my BOINC folder I was able to retrieve the Host ID for the WCG project: 8717880.

    I hope this can help adding this device to my profile, since this missing device is the one that has been crunching the most.
