To Cyclops, Krembil and everyone else...
----------------------------------------I did a bit of a test yesterday, which was to do something much like I did quite often when WCG was hosted at IBM. I had plenty of wu's in my queue to crunch, but decided to suspend the last one and let my core catch up. Once it does, I resume and let a bunch of new wu's queue up for a while. There was not a single problem with any of the transfers of new wu's to me and the distribution of the types of wu's to me were much the same as it was back at IBM. I'm enrolled in all projects (excluding beta) and the wu's I receive are about 4 MCM and 2 OPN's per batch. About the only thing I'm spotting that is abnormal is I'm also enrolled in ARP, and in the past if I wasn't already crunching a wu for it, one would be sent to me. That has yet to happen so far in this opening of my connection to get wu's. I've also not gotten any GPU work units, but in the past those seemed to be infrequent if you didn't leave your connection always open to receive new wu's. I have processed a bunch, though, since wu's have been sent out prior to my connection suspension. Prior to my test it seemed like the wu's that were distributed were all from a single project in each batch sent, and now they're mixed as they once were. Also there are no longer any issues with downloads hanging. I think everything is fine from my point of view other than the lack of noticing that I need an ARP wu to be sent and obviously the (known) issue of the statistics. The bottom line, though, is that my cores have crunching work to do and you're keeping them busy doing so without any problems or issues happening in me getting the wu's or sending back the results of the work my CPU cores have done. That's all I've ever wanted and have missed doing for many, many months. Thank you to everyone involved and it's good to have you back, WCG! Thank you for being relentless in getting this going, Krembil! I'm here for the long haul. :) [Edit 1 times, last edit by cappucino at Sep 1, 2022 3:26:43 AM] |

The network issues seem to be much better. What are we still testing?

The network issues seem to be much better. What are we still testing? The statistics I guess, as they are still not working. Until that is fixed, I don't think we can expect a official restart of WCG. |

The other day i was getting a good mix of tasks but spending hours hitting retry on the download menu was a waste of time. so I shut it down for a couple of days and this morning it starts downloads and it works just like it used to at IBM. Thank you for fixing the tcpip error! i did get a mix of the arf, covid and covid gpu tasks. i like those they don't take more than 5 minutes once they get downloaded.
----------------------------------------Keep up the good work and eventually it will all be back to normal. Mike |

Well the good news is that I'm now no longer seeing downloads getting stuck. The bad news is I'm now getting deluged with tasks (ie far more than will run simultaneously). So let's hope that settles down to something more sensible (might be down to BOINC trying to get back into the swing). But it's a big improvement, so hats off to the team!

My WUs seem to be coming back to what it was like before Feb.
----------------------------------------It looks really good enough that I just turned off "Get new tasks" on all other projects on all machines to see if WCG will keep my queues filled. If we are not back then it looks close. I will check it all again at 18:00 UTC-4 Am I being premature in turning off the other projects. 3-Sep-2022 15:44 UTC-4 It was premature. One machine ran out this morning. But it is still good. [Edit 1 times, last edit by BobbyB at Sep 3, 2022 7:46:35 PM] |

Now they are testing what happens if they shut down the validators for all projects, at the same time.

Yes, I too noticed that over the last 72 hours that the downloads are not getting stuck in Transfers. I am also getting a good supply of WUs and apart from the Stats we seem to be somewhere near.
----------------------------------------Looking good.
