After 9 months I think Krembil lost all their credits they had. After 6 years I am leaving WCG for another project on the Boinc list which is functioning as supposed to be. So you waited all this time and decided to leave just when palpable progress is actually being made? Try DENIS@home, TN-Grid, Einstein@home. Yes, the lack of progress shows that Krembil or does not have the resources or WCG does not have their priority. So maybe they get their sh*t together now but it will not be for long. Downloads are nearly normal this morning. I have not clicked on "Retry Now" at all. Download speeds are not as fast as they should be, but downloads are not being interrupted. (Presumably running one instead of two load balancers.)

(Presumably running one instead of two load balancers.) I had circa 50 procent backing off during download and needing at least 1 manual retry. This on multiple machines (for a total of 96 cores). It's better than the last few days but still not OK. |

(Presumably running one instead of two load balancers.) My machine has tried all night, and no work units are available. I just checked in to my "farm" after 24 hours. There were quite a few backed-off downloads, but they all completed quickly when I hit BOINCtasks "Retry" just a couple of times. That's a great improvement. Yay !
----------------------------------------Congratulations, Krembil-WCG. Don't crumble, Krembil. A suggestion for the BOINC server and client programmers: It would greatly reduce the server requirements if the groups of WUs that were sent out in response to each client fetch request were bundled together into a single file. There would need to be the ability to continue interrupted transfers and maybe to patch corrupted sections of the file without restarting from scratch though. I was getting new work fairly regularly until about 12:30 UTC, and downloading it. But two batches allocated just after that time failed to download until just now, an hour later.
As the dust settles, Krembil and their agents will have to pay attention to the 24/7 nature of the BOINC beast they've taken om |

As the dust settles, Krembil and their agents will have to pay attention to the 24/7 nature of the BOINC beast they've taken om It's kind of staggering how much computer power we're harnessing. Even a modest PC of today would be a beyond-category supercomputer if it were taken back forty years. Now multiply that by tens of thousands. It amuses me that a Raspberry Pi Zero has significantly more CPU horsepower than any of the power-guzzling minicomputers I used in school. |

This problem is most obvious on ARP where the downloads are much larger. There is a current thread there (wrongly labelled Resolved). Mike |

On the testing front, it looks like work units have been shut off for now, but earlier this morning I had fewer stuck download problems. None were ARP units, though, since I already had too many of them in flight to pick up any.
