Ralf,
What has always puzzled me is that those <1KB files are stalling at always 107 bytes. That is in my experience a file system issue rather than a bandwidth or connection issue, as the connection in fact does get established, but the server can't (fast enough) push the data from the database to the IP stack to push that data out. The 107 bytes consist of the HTML page WCG sends out with a 503 error. The text (without the markup!) reads503 Service Unavailable No server is available to handle this request. Cheers - Al. |

Since the server can take days to cough up a complete set of files for a task, this really eats into the available time before the task deadline expires. Could the deadlines be increased to compensate, please, at least until the underlying problem is fixed?

Starting late yesterday, I have been receiving more work units than before. They still have trouble downloading, but if I baby-sit them, they do come through,. And more of the files in any work unit come through without assistance. This does not mean the problem is solved, but they seem to be making incremental progress.

Getting a lot more OPN and MCM WU's but most downloads retry repeatedly, with a lot of the dreaded 107-byte files. If I mash the retry button I can get most of them to download. Once started they seem to run to completion and upload OK.

It looks like the overnight glut has finished, but at least Europe got a cleaner run at the network this morning.

I installed WCG fresh on one of my machines, and it's stuck downloading some PNG files since the 24th (it's not related to any WU). Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
----------------------------------------Another one of my machines that I installed pre-migration is getting a small but steady stream of WUIs, although there are also error messages related to networking in the log, and some WUs are retrying with large back-offs. |

I installed WCG fresh on one of my machines, and it's stuck downloading some PNG files since the 24th (it's not related to any WU). Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Yes. It's part of the ongoing networking issue at this moment. It's hit-or-miss, either you get the network error "503: Service Unavailable" or you just get lucky. If you get the error, the next try at downloading the file will be postponed even further. We all have to be patient till the networking issue is resolved (and we will be notified). Another one of my machines that I installed pre-migration is getting a small but steady stream of WUIs, although there are also error messages related to networking in the log, and some WUs are retrying with large back-offs. Remember, we are still in the testing phase after the international WCG migration. |

Remember, we are still in the testing phase after the international WCG migration. Great, thanks for clarifying. Wanted to confirm that there's no intervention or monitoring required from my side. |
