----------------------------------------Does anyone know if we are getting credit for crunching these work units? A couple of weeks ago I got about 15 MCM jobs but I see no change to my stats. TIA No idea. There has been no official word from WCG/Krembil on this issue, though I mentioned this already several times here on the forum. With those few "test WUs" since they came out in late June, I didn't really care, as that would not make a dent in my overall WCG stats, but with about 400WUs since last night, this is getting close to a month in runtime in a day, and if this is going on for a prolonged period of time, I am certainly (like most everyone else) less enthusiastic about seeing all those validated WUs moving in the big eternal bit bucket... Ralf @Ralf / TCPBF You raise a good point about enthusiasm that I think has been missed at Krembil given the lack of engagement from them about this issue. WCG, as its name implies, relies on the community to engage and run research activity for various science projects. We, the community members, do this as volunteers because we are interested in contributing to this work in some small way. There is no financial reward for doing this but a motivating factor is seeing the amount we contribute build up in days to months and years. The whole badge mechanism reflects this and may encourage some to run a PC a bit longer instead of shutting down, to run a PC otherwise not being used or to favour running WCG over other BOINC science projects. Now more substantial numbers of WUs are being distributed not seeing the stats increase is actually frustrating and demotivating. While the Krembil side may be happy to have resolved enough issues to get WUs churning through at a better rate the science still needs us volunteers to process the work. I want to clock up extra years on OPN and MCM and get the next badge on HST and SCC. However, at the moment I am thinking why bother if you can't see you are making a contribution? Why favour WCG over, say, DENIS or Rosetta? For every cruncher who posts their frustration on the forum how many others have already disengaged or will do soon if this is not resolved? Amen. I'm still very curious if WCG is operated with the full support of Krembil Research Institute -- ostensibly the largest university-based institute in North America??? -- or if it's just run as a side project of Jurisica Lab within Krembil. Because I've toured smaller private research institutes that had full-blown IT departments that were decently staffed with multiple teams -- the usual sysadmins, database admins, developers, network admins, entry level support staff, and management. I question the staffing levels that support WCG. It doesn't appear that all of Krembil is behind this at all. WCG within IBM was a very small team; I wonder if WCG within Krembil is even smaller. That's a recipe for chronic unavailability problems as well as staff burnout.

Amen. I'm still very curious if WCG is operated with the full support of Krembil Research Institute -- ostensibly the largest university-based institute in North America??? -- or if it's just run as a side project of Jurisica Lab within Krembil. That is basically my fear as well. As I mentioned before, I work in both the programming as well as sysadmin field myself, and a lot of the answer of the current WCG "crew" are not making too much sense if there would be a more serious effort behind it all.Because I've toured smaller private research institutes that had full-blown IT departments that were decently staffed with multiple teams -- the usual sysadmins, database admins, developers, network admins, entry level support staff, and management. I question the staffing levels that support WCG. It doesn't appear that all of Krembil is behind this at all. WCG within IBM was a very small team; I wonder if WCG within Krembil is even smaller. That's a recipe for chronic unavailability problems as well as staff burnout. Networking issues and the web site/stats issue should not be handled by the same folks at all. The fact that we apparently have to wait until the data center guy(s) are/is back in town after the summer break to have someone even look at the web site issues just doesn't smell right. And I just don't like to be taken for a ride... Ralf |

WCG within IBM was a very small team Small but mighty! Yes IBM did not get as big as it was by doing things half-assed. The fact that they have evolved into a powerhouse in the new marketplace also says something. |

I am setting BOINC to "No new tasks" for WCG until they start counting work units
in "My Contribution". For that matter, are the completed units even making it back to the researchers? |

They have stated that the tasks we are doing during the testing phase are doing science for the researchers.
It is fine not to do any tasks during the testing phase, they have said they will send out an announcement when things are better. They are sending out limited tasks during the testing phase, so there are more who want tasks than tasks available at this time. |

Over the past weekend, I have crunched over 500 MCM WU for a CPU time of over 1200hr. I will no longer open to process test units until there is ANY feedback from WCG that this "extended test effort" earned me any credit. I am tired of being a ragdoll/chump from an organization that does not respect the people who are making their work possible.

I get this feeling that the sheer scale of this project gets overlooked, and I think the handover could have been done better, but I'm just glad to see progress at last. No, things aren't perfect, and it's taken far longer than hoped, but I'm happy to help out with these tests and report my findings.
I'd also note that work is being shown in both Free-DC and BOINCstats. I'm not concerned about work not being counted, since it clearly is, and it's not like the points are worth any money. |

Unless your trying to earn Gridcoin?
I note that WCG isn't whitelisted by GRC at this moment, although average credit does seem to be being registered in the GRC client. |
