Amazing: I post about getting no work for a month, and I almost immediately get 5 work units.

Wowee I just checked my Valid and PV MCM progress... 250 Work units since we started crunching.. Since I got two reconditioned I7's desktops with 16 G RAM and SSM just before we were scheduled to have WCG startup. I am curious what my performance stats settles out to be.

Does anyone know if we are getting credit for crunching these work units? A couple of weeks ago I got about 15 MCM jobs but I see no change to my stats. TIA No idea. There has been no official word from WCG/Krembil on this issue, though I mentioned this already several times here on the forum. With those few "test WUs" since they came out in late June, I didn't really care, as that would not make a dent in my overall WCG stats, but with about 400WUs since last night, this is getting close to a month in runtime in a day, and if this is going on for a prolonged period of time, I am certainly (like most everyone else) less enthusiastic about seeing all those validated WUs moving in the big eternal bit bucket... Ralf @Ralf / TCPBF You raise a good point about enthusiasm that I think has been missed at Krembil given the lack of engagement from them about this issue. WCG, as its name implies, relies on the community to engage and run research activity for various science projects. We, the community members, do this as volunteers because we are interested in contributing to this work in some small way. There is no financial reward for doing this but a motivating factor is seeing the amount we contribute build up in days to months and years. The whole badge mechanism reflects this and may encourage some to run a PC a bit longer instead of shutting down, to run a PC otherwise not being used or to favour running WCG over other BOINC science projects. Now more substantial numbers of WUs are being distributed not seeing the stats increase is actually frustrating and demotivating. While the Krembil side may be happy to have resolved enough issues to get WUs churning through at a better rate the science still needs us volunteers to process the work. I want to clock up extra years on OPN and MCM and get the next badge on HST and SCC. However, at the moment I am thinking why bother if you can't see you are making a contribution? Why favour WCG over, say, DENIS or Rosetta? For every cruncher who posts their frustration on the forum how many others have already disengaged or will do soon if this is not resolved? |

DITTO What you said. I have worked on SW infrastructure projects and if we had a supplier that was so uncommunicative and so off base on ETC, A "show cause" order would be requested from a Judget by our attorneys!!!

I want to clock up extra years on OPN and MCM and get the next badge on HST and SCC I would agree with you as would many others. My motivation is to see the work being done. Secondarily, I do like the badges. Someday the hope is the work will lead to some breakthrough on one or more of these diseases. Cheers

Well, I'm not going to bring the entire farm of mine online until they tell me it's for real. Really like that they are sending units.

The supply of MCM is petering out. I did get 625 WU's which I have almost completed crunching.

Cyclops--
----------------------------------------I have a question on this item: User progress as shown in the BOINC Manager is not reflected in your "My Contribution" page. There is a lot of speculation going on about the exact details of this bug and I'm hoping that you can shed some light on it. In particular, I (and I'm sure many others) would like to know which of the two behaviors this bug describes: 1. This is a communication/display bug. Our user statistics are getting recorded with every update, but they aren't getting updated and displayed on the My Contribution page (i.e., our stats [credit, runtime, results, etc.] will eventually include all work we've done since the restart once the bug is fixed). OR 2. The bug is a statistics recording bug. Our user statistics (other than BOINC credits) aren't getting recorded in WCG at all (i.e., our non-credit stats won't update with the work we've done since the restart when the bug is fixed). Thanks. |

Cyclops stated in a post on the 19th that they would be working on this issue next with an updated news post on this issue too. Can we just give them a moment to write a good post (and get it approved by sci team). It is Monday. Give them a chance to do this well.

Can we just give them a moment to write a good post (and get it approved by sci team). It is Monday. Give them a chance to do this well. Well, they had already two months to fix this issue, while they are otherwise waiting to get the networking fixed. As I mentioned in another post, the inactivity of Krembil on the website issue(s) doesn't instill much confidence on them doing whatever little they say they would be doing. And I didn't really see this addressed in any of Cyclops's posts...Ralf |
