Hi everyone, here’s a brief follow up from last Friday’s update .
----------------------------------------The good news is that new WUs have been sent out to some volunteers. Remember that while these WUs are from supported research projects, we remain in a testing phase to find issues within our system before we can fully increase the rate of workunits made available. We would appreciate it if volunteers report any issues encountered to the forum (more on that below). Unfortunately, the distribution rate is even lower than we planned for this phase of the rollout due to a networking issue in the data center that is being currently investigated, expected to be resolved in the coming days. At least until this fix is applied, we will not be able to send WUs to everyone. We will update you when this is fixed. Next, since several of you suggested it, we are aggregating a comprehensive list of past and present issues reported by volunteers from the forum. Many threads have reported the same or similar issues that have already been resolved or addressed elsewhere and we agree with forum users who have pointed out that reading dozens of forum posts to find the answers to specific questions is not very intuitive. Therefore, we will post and continuously update a single thread that includes all currently reported issues and if possible, any solutions to them that we can provide. The thread can be viewed here . TL;DR: New WUs are being sent out, albeit at a slower rate than usual for a brief time. Also, we are working on making a forum thread that compiles every past and present issue for your convenience. Thank you for your support, patience and understanding. Here’s to a great week! - WCG team [Edit 1 times, last edit by Cyclops at Aug 9, 2022 11:15:04 PM] |

Thanks for the update. I am sending good vibes (I'd send pizza or other beloved takeout if wanted) to the network people. I know they will find the issue.
Looking forward to the next faq/updates. Thanks for communicating more frequently. |

I would appreciate an update on the project profiles. I have tried changing my profile on this site for some PCs to accept OPN CPU tasks and the change is not propagating out to my PCs such that they actually request OPN tasks.

Freewill - There aren't many tasks going out now, so hard to know if your machine is asking for them. Don't think that if you don't get tasks that your profile is broken.
When you update your profile, the next time you connect to the WCG. you should get a statement in your log file like this... Mon Aug 8 01:19:28 2022 | World Community Grid | General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 08-Aug-2022 01:19:16) You can see that I last modified my profile (general prefs) on Aug 8. Do you see a line like that in your log file? |

Thanks for the update, Cyclops. Having a clean issues thread with status and details for each issue would be great. I'd suggest making it read only so that you can keep it clean over time. Otherwise, it will simply turn into another long thread that we have to look through to find out what is going on.
----------------------------------------Looking forward to the full restart. |

Appreciate the update and especially to see that Forum users suggestions have been taken on board.

We are 4 days ahead now. Is the networking issue identified and resolved, could we get any update on this? |

If you've been waiting 4 days for the data center to resolve a network issue, this doesn't bode well for support on such a large platform as WCG.
We're coming up on the one year anniversary of the move announcement (Sep 13, 2021) and not a single science project is back online. How many issues stand between now and getting Open Pandemic CPU and GPU tasks flowing at full rate? Are we a week, month, or year away? |

We are looking into a way to fix the slower distribution rate while waiting for the data centre's help. Spread out the work distribution over the full 24 hour day, instead of dumping it all in one go, every day at 12:30 UTC, like you do now. Then, you can slowly ramp up the distribution of work sent out per hour. That's a better way to do it of course, and especially now when you have network issues.
