Hello everyone,
The plan at the moment for points is this....but still very much in the works...so could change based on conversations with the researchers. I am going to be granting credit based on what the average CPU claims for points on the OPN1 project. Then, I will be using the multiplier which is 20x at the moment to get the starting points per work unit is allocated. For this example, the CPU points average per task is 50 points. From this, I will be giving you credit for only the work done. Each ligand for GPU does X computations, say 100. If the GPU version stops early because it realizes it has it's answer, then it stops at say 50 computations. If you have a GPU task with 4 ligands (we know there are a lot more) and half of them do 50 computations before exiting and the other half do 100 computations, the average computations for that work unit will be at 75% of initial computations requested before exiting. This means the points granted will be say we start with 1000 points per result, you would be granted 750 points. One thing to note, is that the GPU version is not exactly the same as the CPU version, so there will have to be some acceptable points per work unit given. We currently size the work units to be 20x harder than the CPU at the moment. Note: as you can tell i used completely made up numbers, but this makes the math easier to explain. :) Thanks, -Uplinger |

I still have 1 machine in the fleet which still errors out. It will go to 100%, then stick there for an extended period of time. It's an AMD 5500 APU, so it may be it's just too old, and the last available driver update was in 2015.

Note: as you can tell i used completely made up numbers, but this makes the math easier to explain. :) Thanks, -Uplinger That will do nicely. Just little different Question . With the progress of beta here . Are other teams looking into what you creating here ? and possible thinking expanding other project here to GPU ? Or Covid will stay only option for near future ? |

Do you have an approximate time frame for the next round of betas?

@PMH UK
I used boinc manager to set 'use web preferences' which referred to WCG. After a few work requests, BOINC was still only asking for CPU work units and not GPU units. Does anyone have other ideas what to check? |

What platform (CPU GPU) the research runs on is entirely determined by the researchers who submit the projects to be run here. The techs here may/may not provide input/advise but the final decision comes from the researchers. AFAIK.

Correct, the application comes from the researchers and we work with the application to get it to run on BOINC. Other than that the algorithms and the science behind the application is completely on them. Thanks, -Uplinger |

Quick update after a conversation with the researchers.
1. We have a bug!!!!! :( It is on my end of preparing the work units and we will need another round of beta. It is in work unit generation and will need to be tested. 2. I have discussed the points with the researchers, to get points to work the way we need, I will be using the dlg file which means it is not going away...This reduces one more change on the system that is neded before going live. Thanks, -Uplinger |

LOL, just my luck. The longest beta test series in years and it's for units that grant time credits in minutes rather than days. How will I ever reach my 20 yr Beta badge goal.
