I'm not sure what the consequences are going to be when the work units get more difficult.

Currently are we using tasks that are going to be used in production & will we be trying some more difficult/longer tasks before the application goes live? Longest job I have in my results took roughly 3 minutes 58 seconds/0.05 on a 2070 this consisted of 53 jobs

I have toyed with the idea of granting points based on how many ligands are processed per work unit. However since it's not apples to apples with the CPU version, that seems incorrect. But not ruled out entirely.

I think this is a fair way to allocate points since work is processed so much faster.
Have the research team given any indication of how much time will be saved when the GPU application launches?

All of my work has completed successfully. Keep up the great work

@motech.
If your card does not support OpenCl 1.2 or your driver is out of date and doesn't support it your tasks will error quickly.

According to GPU-Z my GT 730 does support OpenCL 1.2. I'm not sure when a driver is considered to be "out of date" for this application. Mine was only a little over 3 months old - I updated it to the current one. Unless there's more information I can provide now I'll just try to keep any eye out for further beta units and see what happens.

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 26 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

I can not figure out why this computer is not getting any beta tasks. I have two computers, one (Windows 10, GTX 1060) which has no trouble getting and running beta tasks.

The other is Linux with an Intel Core i5-4670K with only the internal GPU. I *am* able to run other BOINC iGPU tasks on the GPU, so I know that the correct video and OpenCL drivers are installed and running, and that BOINC sees the iGPU and reports it to the server. I know someone here reported running beta tasks on an i7-4790K, which is essentially the same CPU as I have except with hypertheads and a slightly higher clock. Furthermore, this computer is on the same WCG venue as the Windows computer which *is* getting beta tasks.

Based upon the things that, individually, are working, it seems that:
A) This CPU's internal GPU is capable of running these tasks,
B) The computer is correctly configured to run BOINC tasks on the iGPU.
C) My server settings are correct for running these beta tasks.

And yet this coimputer has yet to get a single task.

Here's the relevant portion of the BOINC client log:

I just can't figure out why it's not getting any tasks. Even when there's plenty of tasks available, it doesn't get any.

Well, missed that last release of Beta tasks totally.
A shut down computer, can't possibly catch any tasks. I went out for a couple of hours, and when I came back, it was already over.

@Michael Goetz

Maybe bad luck.
I got two Intel tasks on one machine, none on the other. Almost identical rigs, just different NVIDIA GPUs (which both got fed).

From BoincTasks forum:

**NOTE:
The BOINC client changes:
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>.5</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>.4</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
into:
<gpu_gpu_usage>0.500000</gpu_gpu_usage>
<gpu_cpu_usage>0.400000</gpu_cpu_usage>

Both are valid.

I wouldn't use any client version that overwrites my file syntax into something else. Takes control out of my hands and puts it into someone else's hands. No thanks. JMHO

Re: OpenPandemics GPU Beta Test - March 26 2021 [ Issues Thread ]

I had set GPU to yes for the four situations in one of my four BOINC parameters, the ones with Ryzen 7. I have four GPU in suspension.

The fans started running now and then on an 8 thread Intel machine, and there were four GPU in there with two actually running. They didn't go very far without going into suspension again, but they have done a few minutes worth of work.

I DID NOT ask for GPU on that machine in the other three BOINC options, and have NO for all four GPU situations in the settings. Since it would go into suspension when moving the mouse, I did set the GPU parameter to run even if active, and the change was noticeable so I could watch what was going on.
