Hi everyone,
----------------------------------------As members of the World Community Grid team, we’re all deeply concerned about the current and possible impact of COVID-19. As you can imagine, we’re fielding questions about how soon we’ll have a project up and running to help fight the virus. Here’s where we are as of today:
(And as an FYI, the World Community Grid team usually works remotely anyway, so our work will continue to go forward) Many thanks, Juan [Edit 1 times, last edit by jhindo at Mar 14, 2020 12:04:09 AM] |

Rosetta@Home is currently running some WUs to help with modeling coronavirus protein. Their WUs are mixed up so I don't know which one is exactly for the coronavirus research. However, I think their purpose is to solve protein folding works from Fold.it . So I guess every WU helps.
----------------------------------------Seems like they got a bit of progress. https://www.ipd.uw.edu/2020/02/rosettas-role-in-fighting-coronavirus/ I'm only dedicating my laptop to Rosetta 'cause there's no job for Android. Hope WCG comes up with a project to conquer this damn virus quickly.

Folding@home is also working on the coronavirus and is out of GPU work for at least the last 5 or so hours since I first checked. I'm assuming it has to with the Nvidia Twitter account asking people to join with their GPUs (it has 3.6k RT's and 7.1k favs and I'm assuming, several million views).
----------------------------------------Personally I don't think we need a project for this. There are already other projects working on this and the fact that it is a pandemic means there are tons of pharma companies, universities, labs, etc working on this. hi i want to help how am i doing ?? which server ?? WCG has no SARS-CoV2 projects. Look to Rosetta@home or Folding@home. AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

Ms Hindo,
----------------------------------------1. The first thing to be discovered in a new viral outbreak is the genetic sequence of the virus. Be it RNA or DNA good primers are critical to a reliable and accurate test. The current CDC test is an RT-PCR analysis. The primer is the most critical part of this protocol. Too long and it will inchworm. Too short and it's non-specific. Too much homology with human nucleotide sequences and it will bind the wrong substrate. A routine to screen the many possibilities would be useful. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/testing.html 2. The Coronavirus spike protein (S) binds the ACE2 receptor to gain entry into our cells. Finding epitopes on S can lead to an efficacious prophylactic and diagnostic. Given the genetic sequence it's relatively easy to model the protein structure. What I don't think is being done is to search for exposed epitopes that can serve as antagonist candidates. 3. Thanks for your post on this topic. I suggest you post similar on LinkedIn. I'm connected to dozens of scientists there and I'm sure word would travel fast of your offer of an HPC project. ...KRI please cancel all shadow-banning |
