Re: Work Available

according to project statistics it is running at around 6000 results/day. I have been getting slightly less than 1 per day

Re: Work Available

Just in case anyone in charge is watching the forums....

We are out of ARP WUs. please reload the hopper. I had a lovely time of original WUs (0 and 1), and then a steady stream of resends, a trickle of resends, and now I'm dry.

My computer is moving on to back up projects, but I've set the resource share so that I'll be back the moment ARP has anything for me.

Re: Work Available

These links give you a picture of where all the WUs for ARP are.

https://download.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc...rp1_stats/generations.txt
https://download.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/download/arp1_stats/state.txt
https://download.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/download/arp1_stats/completed.txt

The first one shows you how many in each iteration. There is a serial part of this in that the next iteration can only be formed from the results of the previous one. So the WUs that are very early in the iteration are extremes and ultras if they aren't up to where the main pack of WUs are. The second link gives you the definition of the extreme and ultra (though in a funky order which bothers me). The last link gives you how many were done yesterday, but this one may not be working correctly...

Re: Work Available

Accelerated are generations 126 - 130
Extremes are earlier generations.
Ultras are the 3 units in generations 14, 16 & 17.

Normals are first issued with a time allowance of 6 days to 2 machines.
Accelerated are first issued with a time allowance of 3 days to 2 machines.
Extremes are first issued with a time allowance of 3 days to 3 machines.
Ultras are extremes for this purpose.

Any re-sends after half way through the initial period are issued with a time allowance of half the original time so 3 or 1.5 days.

Re: Work Available

Unixchick, Mike;

I'd started a reply which contained elements of both of yours, but I checked for other replies, found yours and gave up :-)

However...

Unixchick - the "funky order" of the entries in state.txt and/or completed.txt is because the query will arrange the results in ascending order of the first field by default... I find it disconcerting too, especially when the order switches :-)

Mike - I've only been keeping workunit records since February 2022 (with the preparations for transition in full flow) and all the units I have data for that would've been considered Extreme at the time have initial deadlines of 1.5 days[1] (which don't seem to get halved if there's a deadline-provoked retry...) -- I think that changed as part of the pre-transition speed-up... Adri (or Ralf?) might have a lot more data fo check up on that (my sample of 1100 or so work units only includes 15 Extreme units!)

Cheers - Al.

[1] I haven't included examples here, but will provide some if requested...

Re: Work Available

Al, I think you've been questioning about inital deadlines before the transition (by the end of February 2022).

Looking at October 2021, I see normal deadlines of 8 days and shortened deadlines of 4.5 days. Somewhere in February 2022 this changed to 6 days, shortened deadlines of 3 days and some extremes with a deadline of 1.5 days.

Examples:
(columns: Name, ReportDeadline, SentTime)
ARP1_0019757_128_0 2022-02-19T02:58:31 2022-02-11T02:58:31 (8 days)
ARP1_0001892_126_2 2022-02-15T23:45:10 2022-02-11T11:45:10 (4.5 days)
ARP1_0020372_128_1 2022-02-17T17:04:13 2022-02-11T17:04:13 (6 days)
ARP1_0034635_130_2 2022-02-15T16:44:51 2022-02-12T04:44:51 (3.5 days)
ARP1_0010893_125_0 2022-02-15T05:04:14 2022-02-12T05:04:14 (3 days)
ARP1_0031033_102_2 2022-02-13T14:05:20 2022-02-12T02:05:20 (1.5 days)

(Note: There is one odd entry with a deadline of 3.5 days.)

Is this what you were looking for, Al?

Hi Unixchick, we expect to send more ARP1 WUs soon. I sent this to the tech team for them to look at.

Re: Work Available

Al/Adri

The original deadlines were 7 days halved to 3.5 days on re-send over half way through the initial period.

Then 1 day was added to each to get the replies back so 8 or 4.5 days.

Then IBM tried to get the stuck units and especially those stuck for a long time to get going again prior to Krembil taking over. They introduced the 'extreme' category. I introduced the term 'ultra' which originally referred to 6 units but now only 3 remain (in generations 14, 16 & 17).

With IBM all the projects had different deadlines as high as 14 days, but Krembil have simplified this so all are based on 6 days, halving to 3 days.

ARP is the only one to have this extreme category due to the wide spread of generations involved.

It is strange that Krembil have not been issuing many extremes, but maybe they are stuck and Krembil have not had the time/resource to unstick them. IBM managed to unstick them by shortening the timestep from 36 to 24, reverting back after a few generations.

I suspect that those units might have related to mountainous areas where the weather changed more frequently.

Re: Work Available

Mike,
Great info, thanks!
It's good that you remember this so well. I've looked through my logfiles and found out that the change from 7 to 8 days happened in the space-time continuum between these two tasks:
ARP1_0013568_074_1 2021-07-16T19:19:24 2021-07-09T19:19:24
ARP1_0024686_076_0 2021-07-18T03:08:06 2021-07-10T03:08:06
wink
