Re: Viktors updates

We had our monthly call today.

1. The team has several planned papers, and they'll be submitting one of them in the next few weeks.
2. They met in person last week to discuss a different paper; they solidified the draft, discussed the data, etc.
3. They visually inspected some of the data that they've been receiving and are very excited about the results. They'll have more info to share over the coming months, as they work through the computational and logistical issues of dealing with this amount of data.
4. They're planning to present about the project at a conference in July.

Re: Viktors updates

Hey,

I recently came back to WCG, and am having fun with it. Science will help save us all, despite the boobs out there. I crunch on Team Andrax, and Microbiome Immunity Project is my hope for our future. I recently posted this on Andrax home page:

Hey JC and fellow Andraxians,

Abacus specs: Dell Inspiron 5559 with Dual Core Intel I5 @ 2.2 & 2.3 GHz; 12 Gigabyte RAM, Windows 10 1809, and all of the familiar bells and whistles. I also am editing and publishing while WCG crunches!
I do this by using my own computing preferences, fine tuned to gain 1000 points approx. every three days, and using my system for my uses at the same time:

Max. CPU usage 60%; Max CPU time 30%, all else is default user prefs.

Re: Viktors updates

Why do you have such extreme limits on your CPU, 7cured?

Re: Viktors updates

Had a quick call with part of the research team today (many of them are on vacation this week since there's a US holiday on Wednesday).

1. Researcher Tomasz Kosciolek presented about the project at a conference last week.
2. Several of the researchers will be presenting about the project in a few weeks at the Intelligent Systems for Molecular Biology conference (held this year in Switzerland).
3. Work continues on their next paper. They think some of their results may possibly have significance beyond the gut microbiome.
4. They are thinking about re-assessing how they prioritize targets for their WCG work. It's possible (but not certain) that they may start looking at how the gut microbiome may be involved in additional diseases (such as cancer) in the future.
5. They are working on their next project update, which we expect to have before the next monthly call.

Re: Viktors updates

We just wrapped up a quick research call. Several of the scientists were not able to attend as they are at a conference today.

1. Several of the researchers presented at the Intelligent Systems for Molecular Biology conference last month. They talked quite a bit about the project and got positive feedback on their work with World Community Grid.
2. Although the project has predicted roughly 200k protein structures so far, there's still a large amount of work to do. The research team is beginning to examine new technologies that may help speed up their work in the future.
3. They have a draft of their first paper ready and will start submitting it to academic journals in the next few weeks.

Here's a summary of the work unit progress to-date (as of August 5):

Available for Download:  2,837 batches*
In Progress:  9,650 batches (3,918,375 work units)
Completed:  206,515 batches total, 9,049 in the last 30 days, 301/day average

*NOTE - The researchers are building more batches--this is just the number available for download as of today. The researchers do not have an estimate of how many total batches they will be submitting for the project.
