The January 5th 2018 issue of the journal SCIENCE from AAAS has a number of articles about how the microbiome can influence cancer treatment. In our monthly call with the Microbiome Immunity Project researchers, they have been talking to the researchers working on the microbiome-cancer connection and may be able to collaborate, expanding this project. We expect more news about this from the researchers in a few months. Given the large amount of work the project needs to perform on World Community Grid, we will be looking at launching a recruitment campaign. The cancer connection should also help to get more people interested in contributing to this project. Meanwhile the researchers are working on their postprocessing pipeline which receives results data from World Community Grid.

Thanks for this update (and the others...)

Yet again, thanks Viktors on a timely update - this is exactly the type of brief update I'm (and I'm sure, others are) looking for.

Thank you very much Viktors for this brief update.
----------------------------------------Even if recruitment of new contributors is essential, please don't forget to optimize the science for improvement the computation efficiency Cheers, Yves |

Yes, very exciting, indeed
What is the opposite of a can of worms? The article reminds me of this one posted by Jim Slade and thank you for your diligence doing this for us where it says: ”…the three classical biological explanations of the individual self - the immune system, the brain, the genome - are being challenged by the new field of microbiome research …” They get a little philosophical and for a good reason. We are probably about to face an entirely new paradigm. |
