Re: Viktors updates

And still no word on when their defective software will be fixed. MIP wastes so much electricity it's not funny, and Rosetta as well.

Re: Viktors updates

Since that last meeting the server has started issuing about 200,000 MIP fewer work units a day. Are we throttling speeds to ensure the project doesn't run dry?

The reason the MIP team was unaware that several WCG experiments have completed months ago is because not a single member of their laboratory is an active donor with the World Community Grid.

They see no reason to donate; they see no reason to post on this forum in several years. While their work computers may run alpha-tests, their personal computers don't crunch at all. Perhaps they see the project as less beneficial then we do.

Aurum420, perhaps when its their power bill and their computers wasting electricity, they'll care.

Re: Viktors updates

Just wrapped up our monthly call with the research team.

1. The researchers are currently building more work units (around 640 batches) to be sent to us, and anticipate building another 2,000 batches in the very near future.
2. Now that the researchers are putting more work hours into data analysis, writing papers, and publicizing the project, they're sending us work at a slower pace so that they're able to keep up with the new data that they receive back from us.
3. The tech team doesn't anticipate any work outages with the slower pace.
4. The researchers are running a new type of analysis on the work units they've received from us. More details coming as they refine this method of analysis.

Current Work Unit Status:

Available for Download: 684 batches
In Progress: 9,696 batches (6,188,242 work units)
Completed: 266,278 total - 11,912 in the last 30 days - average of 397 per day
Estimated backlog: 1.7 days

Re: Viktors updates

We just had our monthly call with the research team.

1. We have lots of work in the backlog now (see below), with additional work to come.
2. They're submitting their first paper to various academic journals. We'll let everyone know once it's accepted.
3. Several of the researchers gave presentations about the project to other scientists last month at a couple of academic meetings in London. Some of these other scientists were interested in getting access to the results, which the MIP team will share in accordance with our open data policy.
4. They're continuing work on their new method of analysis, which so far looks promising. They still need to find out how accurate the new method will be with novel protein structures (which is very difficult to test).

Current Work Unit Status:

Available for Download: 6,976 batches
In Progress: 9,430 batches (17,375,990 work units)
Completed: 274,361 total - 9,047 in the last 30 days - average of 301 per day
Estimated backlog: 23 days

Re: Viktors updates

Very good. I will try the new structures on more than two cores at once, which is my present limit for good performance.
It is worth more.

In grad school I was told that it is proper to only submit the research to one journal at a time. Perhaps a different major or a different time? I just want to make sure they don't get burned, especially as they are starting their first related publication.
