The only down side to that router that I can say is that some Android apps don't want to connect correctly while going over its wifi. this is a bug in ASUS routers and doesn't necessarily effect all of them. You can Google it and see multiple reports. To get around it, I can actually set up another wireless router and just connect through it which will then transfer it through the hard line of the ASUS router. I know of at least 3 applications I use that have this issue. However, it isn't all applications from Android. I keep my firmware up to date pretty regular. Two of my co-workers have these and theirs don't have the flaw. I don't even know when it started as I've had several firmware updates since then and we just chalked it up to our providers until I did extensive testing and research. I'm usually not an ASUS fan, but this router has been rock solid other that that little issue.

I was wondering why neither of the 2 phones I set up was completing any work. Apparently Android 6 introduced an option located under settings > advanced settings > Battery that you have to tell the phone what apps can continue running in the background when the screen goes black. Got that changed and they appear to be crunching away again.

The only phones I have are all quads, so I was just wondering. Also, I think those had non-removable batteries from the specs I could find. Can you confirm? Thanks! |

Yes to nonremovable batteries. Yes 8 cores. My wife and mother-in-law got ahold of 2 of them, so am down to 2 already...grrrrr. I will check thermals out when I have more testing going.

At my old home, I would put them up in the attic during winter months. Environmental cooling, and out of sight The alcatel quad phones are being sold for $4.99US on the tracfone website: https://shop.tracfone.com/shop/en/tracfonesto...l-onetouch-pop-icon-2-lte but its limit two per order as far as I can tell. I am going to pick up two. That will be total of 8 of these phones for me. Edit: free shipping, either 3 day or fedex overnight. I have them shipped to my work address as we have a loading dock and they sign for me. That way I don't have to go to the fedex hub to sign for it. Made a big update on my instructable
----------------------------------------@joneill003 Check it for thermal issues on maximising octa cores setup @Coleslaw From my point of view, even if the quads are cheaper, they kind of consume the same amount of power as octa cores. Plus like you said you need a second router for double the amount of smartphones :) Is the tracfone site geo-blocked? I am more interested in cheap octa cores. My best efficient device is still 10 Amlogic H96 pro octa core, see my instructable 7.1 |

@critipurdel, you don't necessarily need a second router. Possibly just a better one. I prefer a second one with what I do with them as it essentially will double the amount of wireless bandwidth I have available for my home doing it. If you look at the specs of my router, it can handle a lot more connections than the typical residential router.
----------------------------------------Edit: Also, the Octocores aren't typically that low on cost. They sold out quick for a reason. Getting Quads for $5 shipped is an amazing price as well. Last I checked, they had already sold out of these. @joneill003, looking at CPU-z numbers it looks like the Octocore cores float from 63C to 70C and the battery sits around 37C. It is running a mix of work. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Coleslaw at Mar 5, 2018 3:25:08 AM] |

Those thermals arent bad at all for 8 cores. My odroids with heatsinks and fans cooling them run in the 60C range. I think the big.LITTLE is 4x 2GHz and 4x 1.4GHz. The 2GHz cores usually run in the 1.8-1.9 range.
