Re: Best bang-for-the-buck Android device

Yeah... I run apps on my devices that earn gift cards, so they pretty well pay for themselves and then some. So, the BOINC portion is basically free DC'ing. I just ordered 3 of the Alcatels above. I've probably got around 30 Android devices crunching in my home for various projects now. All range from first gen devices with a single 600 MHz core up to some quads. I've got a box of dead phones/bloated batteries through the years. If they could provide a source of cheap batteries that would be awesome. It is sad I can replace the entire phone for the same cost as a battery...

The one posted above is indeed Kit Kat 4.4 according to the specs listed at Walmart.com https://www.walmart.com/ip/45822126?wmlspartn...126&wl13=&veh=sem

Try a4c.com. I've purchased quite a few batteries as replacements for bloaters and for older phones especially they run about $3-$5 each. Shipping is also free in the U.S.

Just ordered 3 from straight talk. It was cheaper to get a third one and free shipping than to just order two.

$3 would be worth it... but at $5 I would almost take the hit and just pay $10 for a new phone. I have also had someone tell me that they convinced Walmart to price match this deal with non-refurb phones. Hope that helps someone out.

I ordered one of those from Straighttalk and they shipped a $10 phone with signature verification via FedEx. I'm not taking off work or going to get a $10 phone.

Re: Best bang-for-the-buck Android device

As FAAH is restarted, was thinking about purchasing some old Androids...especially as mobile phones are not that cheap in EU, as they are in US:
- https://www.hrvatskitelekom.hr/mobiteli-na-bonove?gapt=4-32-1-1-0-0-0
- used phones - https://www.hrvatskitelekom.hr/rabljeni-mobiteli
- http://www.tele2.hr/privatni-korisnici/mobiteli/na-bonove/
about 700kn is $100 or 765kn is 100€...

But for about 100-150kn range, can get quite cheaply some old Androids...

Re: Best bang-for-the-buck Android device

I got my three last night. Set them up this morning. Running all 4 cores, I get the dreaded "your battery is about to blow up, so BOINC is pausing" message. This is with the default 40C max setting (I usually drop that to 35 but left it default to see). So I set them to use 3 cores, they seem happy (although still pretty warm) with that. I think I will build a platform for them to sit on and have them cooled by a case fan in order to run all 4 cores each.
