4watts each isn't bad. That's about what one of those old fashioned nightlights with screw in bulb would draw. I have 8 phones all plugged into a power charging center. Would be interesting to see how much those draw all together with my kill a watt. I also have two odroid xu4 systems. I don't think those pull too much, but likely more than a phone since it has active cooling and are much more robust. I was able to get WCG/Boinc to run on some Asus Tinkerboards. They seem to be doing well (and not generating much heat either). I like the Tinkerboards because they can be mounted to a multi-layer GeauxRobot Dogbone stack and they can all be attached via a USB Power Center. I like organization . I don't know if this is true of your Odroids, but the android version of TinkerOS makes Boinc believe that the battery is at 100% all the time even though no battery exists. (Evidently, the battery percentage is important to Boinc). The temperature setting must be set above 40C for the WU's to crunch though. Anyway, I might try an Odroid xu4 myself. I hope you keep me posted if you do any thing else with your Odroids. |

There was a fix to the official odriod supported version of android to address the "battery" issue, which sadly is still 4.4.x One of my systems I am still running 4.4, only because I was too lazy to make the switch over to lineage. When I first set it up, that fix had not been implemented, and BOINC would not start crunching. The message said something to the effect of battery charge not high enough. It was listed in android as 30% and "charging" so in the BOINC settings, I changed them to allow all sources of power for compute, including battery. I also changed the minimum for BOINC to start to 10%. BOINC immediately started crunching and has been happy ever since. That one I set up a couple years ago, and it is still crunching away happily. Every spring I power them down and blow the dust out of the box they are mounted in. They are mounted one above the other, in a wooden box with a 120mm fan intake and another as an exhaust in a push/pull design, creating a nice windtunnel effect. Way overkill for cooling, but works very well. The stock active cooler is garbage. I bought an aftermarket heatsink and a 40mm 5v noctua fan to mount on top of it, and it is much more efficient. With the wind tunnel I have, the noctua hardly even spins up. The odroid forums have great support for newer androids, especially member voodik (sp?) I believe his latest version is android 7. I have not checked back in a while to see if he has built a version 8 yet. My second odroid is android version 6. I have not looked into any tinkerboards; I will have to google these this weekend and see what they are all about. I would love to pick up the odroid MC1, but that is quite a bit of money to drop on just a dedicated crunching machine for me right now. Maybe sometime in the future. Or if I can pick up a used one somewhere. |

They were actually delivered about an hour ago, so I'll set them up this weekend. I prefer those since the batteries can be removed from the equation and powered directly through my (poor) soldering skills So now I will have 8 of them. These will replace a couple of older dual core phones that are probably ready for retirement. |

Since I have Straight Talk service, I'm thinking of using their 30% bundle deal right now. I can get a $20 phone and a 1 month service refill card for basically the same cost as just a month of service plus use a rewards site for another couple bucks back. Basically, like getting a free phone. And I can do that for essentially however months I want to pre-pay my service.

You could send adb commands also over wifi.

Hey christipurdel,
My adb experience is limited to the Asus Tinkerboard running android. I don't know if it is possible to use adb with refurbished android phones, or if that functionality is locked out by default. |

My understanding is that adb & fastboot "should" run on all android phones.

I went ahead and did the Sensa deal. Picked up 2. They were essentially free for me because I used the current 30% off promo code for bundling a phone with a month of service card. We will use the service anyways, so this was essentially 2 free Octocores. I also went through a cash back site and got an additional $.80 off of each of them. Yeah, I know not huge money but when you are talking prices this low, that just sweetens the deal...lol.
