How did the high temps go at the end of the week? It hit 90°C on Friday afternoon, which is a bit close to the limit. Mind you, I think that was only about 10° above ambient, by the feel of it! It should be fine with this Friday's 35deg then, might be worth keeping one eye on it though. ![]() I'll have a bucket of water on standby in case it catches fire. Over the weekend I built a mega-cheap system for a relative... a Ryzen 3-3100. It's great. Maxed out (8 threads from its 4 cores) it's less than 5% slower per WCG unit than my 3900X, albeit with a third as many threads. It uses almost exactly 1/3 of the power for the CPU too. None of this is surprising if you know how these Ryzen CPUs are packaged. After running overnight, with just the stock CPU fan and no case fans, it was sitting at 62C and nice and quiet. Not bad, considering the whole system, with 16GB of RAM and a 500GB NVMe drive, case, PSU and an nVidia GT610 (second hand off eBay) came to £330. Even the £20 case (yes, honestly) is really well put together.

Glad to see AMD making such a come back! Years of Intel dominating the market with pointless CPU refreshes requiring different sockets each time and now getting a hammering from their competition! My next build will be AMD for sure! No longer just cheaper option but brilliant performance per core and per watt! I'll have a think about your previous message further up Dave, thanks!

Team UK is the biggest UK team, Tom1987. Have a look at the stats on my website (link below). Every contribution is welcome, large or small.
----------------------------------------I've just hit 40 years on Mapping Cancer Markers. My predictor reckons it'll be less than 250 days until I get my Diamond 50. That's going to be an important milestone for me. It will be my first (and probably only) Diamond 50, and my 1st wife died of cancer at age 50, so it seems appropriate to get that badge. Hi Team UK, Hope everybody is Covid free and safe.
----------------------------------------I hit 300 Million points, Seems so long ago that I got my first million points. Next targets are 1 Million results (330 days) and 150yrs Runtime (275 days). ![]() |

Hi Team UK, Hope everybody is Covid free and safe. I hit 300 Million points, Seems so long ago that I got my first million points. Next targets are 1 Million results (330 days) and 150yrs Runtime (275 days). Nice one DMNI! I've just changed a PC from Ubuntu to Win10 as a bit of an experiment as I've got 2 identical spec machines now and thought it would be fun to compare them but it seems to be limted to 65% CPU even though all options are set to 100%, when I run something like Cinebench it'll run all cores at 100% but BOINC only wants 65% in fact one CPU runs all cores at 100% and the other seems to only run a handful and spread it out across the processor leaving most at 0%. Temps are ok, it's running on all projects, only 25% memory used. I'll keep playing but seems odd. Any ideas appreciated.
cheers,

I take it it is a new win10 install, can there be a service running in the background, like indexing or .net doing its compilations?

I take it it is a new win10 install, can there be a service running in the background, like indexing or .net doing its compilations? Yep brand new install Win 10 Pro. Interestingly today windows task manager is reporting100% rather than 65% but HWMonitor is showing variable usage per core eg. 40-99% across that CPU. So it's better but still super weird. I don't think it was doing something else like indexing as Cinebench behaved normally, the oddness appears to be more BOINC. I'll watch it today and see how it goes. thanks.

Could it be the boinc memory limit being hit? Just speculation.

Could it be the boinc memory limit being hit? Just speculation. Don't think so, it's allowed up to 75% and only 25% currently used. I switched on to check then switched it all off again. Currently too hot to run PC's flat out, roasting down this way!

PC's running again and good news my W10 PC has decided to run at 100% now, I'm not going to touch it in case it does something odd.
