Re: Covid 19 plus side

Hi everyone, apologies to Mac1, Thargor et al, I didn't reply to you after my last post because my Bipolar kicked in to High Gear after that and I went in to a dark place crying, and am only now emerging (after a year of trying to get my Meds increased to a higher dose, GP finally realised I wasn't joking), to answer Mac1's reply to my post, after reaching my goal for SCC, I opened up to everything until Covid was released, and then went Covid only.

My totals are a little screwy because 2 of my systems are getting very regular BSOD's (every other day for each on average), nothing I do seems to work and my local PC Shop isn't open sad (I haven't had a BSOD since Win 98, so why now under Win 10??).

I hope you are all well smile .

No need to apologize and it's good you're emerging from that dark place!
Looks like most of the team are processing Covid now, on Dave's site under projects we've got 76% heading that way.
My output's been a bit choppy too recently as I switch the PC off that I'm not using for work during the hot days, it's back on since yesterday now.
It's odd that two of your systems are affected at the same time, could it be environmental- e.g. that room getting too hot recently? Maybe check the temps and do what I didn't and check the heat-sinks and fans for dust build up too.

Stay well. smile

I thought that as well, but all temps are okay (fully dusted out as well), other 3 systems (touching wood with fingers crossed), are so far free from the BSOD'S. Next thing to try is to swap G/C's over from un-effected PC's and see if it has any effect on any system, good or bad.

Re: Covid 19 plus side

Do you get an stop/error code with the BSOD? if so that may help to narrow it down, its normally the last line next to the QR code on the BSOD.

Unsmurf: I hadn't considered that, I have noticed a QR Code but didn't pay much attention to it, I'm a little quick on pushing the power button. When it happens again, I'll take note of any codes and start from there, Cheers.

Re: Covid 19 plus side

How are you getting on Thargor? Take a few days playing around then you can settle down and get to grips with it.

I found that at the beginning, it is best to stick to one track which eventually becomes a known, and if you can, practise braking and cornering on every corner until you start to go fast and smooth, tyre squeal is bad for the tyres life span.
If you want I can practise with you, it can help to follow someone to learn all the braking points and racing lines.
There is a hud display you can put on the screen to help see how fast you're going around corners and also there will be a map of the track as well.

Comedy of errors, at the moment, but I'll get there...

Firstly, the wheel/pedals/shifter turned up on Sunday last weekend, the frame arrived today (amazingly quickly given it was only despatched from Sweden on Tuesday or thereabouts), but the company (which is only about 40-50 miles away) who despatched the bolts to fit it all together failed to get them sent out in a decent time-frame, so as of 4pm today, they hadn't shown up.

As I was a little impatient (and the call-queue for Royal Mail was over an hour long, when I tried to call earlier to chase up details), I did a quick Click/Collect with a nearby Screwfix and went to pick them up from there instead - however, guess what had been delivered into my mailbox while I was out! I guess I now have plenty of spare bolts.

Unfortunately, while putting it all together, I discovered the other important thing I'm missing - the heads of the recommended bolts aren't wide enough, and almost fit flush into the holes they're supposed to secure in on the floor-plates, and I don't have any decent-sized washers that I can use.

So, it's another trip to Screwfix in the morning, after my usual weekly food-shop, and then hopefully I can carry on with the build. The frame is put together, and the wheel/pedals are ready to go on, I just need those washers to be able to put it all together. Then I can look at getting all the heights/lengths of the frame configured with my chair attached, then I can finally look at getting it all set up on PC and getting some racing done!

I'll get there, at some point! biggrin

Re: Covid 19 plus side

Well, it's finally up and running (although I think the exertion of moving a heavy computer desk around multiple times to tidy existing cabling and set up the new cabling for this drained me a bit as my headaches came back with a vengeance earlier today). However, I did get some driving in, and got to try a few of the games I already had...

- DIRT Rally 1.0: fantastic fun, although still need to tweak sensitivity, etc, did OK in rally-cross but rallying/hill-climb were nigh on impossible
- RaceRoom Racing Experience: wheel worked OK but pedals didn't, apparently not a rare issue, will need further investigation
- GRID 2: not supported out of the box, would need config-file tweaking which I've not looked at yet
- The Crew: worked OK after configuring controls and heavily tweaking steering-sensitivity, but could not get reverse to work at all, got to slide it around an airfield for a bit to practice though, quite good fun (but no reverse is a killer).

Have got Assetto and Project Cars 2 on my wishlist, along with Wreckfest, but will probably spend a bit of time with games I already own before splashing out more on new games.

Re: Covid 19 plus side

Nice one Thargor, looking forward to racing together.
I've got Dirt 3 installed, but it is not working with my wheel as yet. Remember playing Colin McRae Rally 20 odd years ago. Lots of fun but hard to control with a keyboard.

For those that might be interested, Le Mans virtual 24hr is on this weekend and free to watch.

I've setup a Pi-Hole system using my older Raspberry PI. https://pi-hole.net/
Seems to be working very well, not seen any advertisements during my casual browsing.
