Re: Graphics Card Performance

Lets get this subject back on track and post your performance your card is doing. List your GPU card, how many being crunched per card and the times.
AMD HD7870 Ghz edition is doing 8 with completion times around 5:30 time frame. When I was doing 6, about 4:30, and doing 4 did around 3 minutes. Not to bad of a card but wonder if I should back off to 6 for faster times.

I'd stick with 8 if it doesn't cause lagging or other problems.
Running 8 in 5.5 minutes is 1 every 41.25 seconds (60 * 5.5 / 8). Running 6 would be 1 every 45 seconds ( 60 * 4.5 / 6).

For another sample:
7970 @ 1125 MHz running 9 at a time takes around 2.5-3 minutes each or 1 every 20 seconds or so.

Re: Graphics Card Performance

I am running 3 WU at a time on an X6 2.8 Ghz with a 560ti @ 925Mhz. Averaging 11 mins for 3. One WU takes about 5 mins. Thought about running 4 WU but it is lagging already. I can run 5 WU with Poem and still use the machine.

For those tuning in late...(namely me)
Are you using an app_whatev.xml file that allows other WCG cpu work? I ask because I have an AMD7870 coming that is going into a sys with 980X @4.0 ish. That obviously means my CPU will run pretty cool even when attempting .125 in the app_ file. Granted that tis is still much better than the 1 HR/wu that the cpu takes/WU.
Is there a limit for amd cards for wu/card? I'm newbie to amd GPU.
If I can go .1 then I concieveably run 10 cores (cool cpu :) ) and much greater total output while the HCC1 project is running?
EDIT: Dedicated cruncher so lag is not an issue.

You can use <count>.083</count> to run 12 at a time. It works perfectly on my 980X+7970.
I haven't done it on a 7870, but someone on team XS has:

Re: Graphics Card Performance

TY,
I just want to stick with 10 cpu cores though. Cooler running CPU and less power. Next endeavor is to find a way to find where to put the app_ file and create it. I can't find it with what I've seen as the Paths. It's win7 x64 OS. Should I let all finish and uninstall?
Is there a How To that could get me there? I did a simple "oops just get me going" on the machine :( Been running fine and never knew it could do better.
I love science contributions with my HW and have been doing it for many years. Boinc for just over a year. 1st project WCG :) All my Machines that I use for donation are dedicated so lag isn't an issue. All run 24/7 365 also. I'm just midlin but want to make the most of what I've got to contribute with blushing

You can find an example here:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthrea...09-Working-app_info-files
You don't need to uninstall.
It goes in the boinc data folder under projects\www.worldcommunitygrid.org.

Re: Graphics Card Performance

TY, Will definately find a way by tuesday when the 7870 shows up :)
Now... conflicting info on whether the app_info.xml file will work for NV cards on XP64. Can it work? Have 2 EVGA 570 factory OC to 797 that are in a 990x @4.4 ghz with 6G Ram. They are kicking what 580's show on charts and even a bit more :) but 1 each :(
Can XP do the app_info.xml? File/Folder finding is issue here as well. TY in advance for any help.

Someone else will have to help you with that. I don't know anything about running nvidia cards or using XP.

Re: Graphics Card Performance

Dedicated cruncher:
Running 8 instances for dual 7970 on 980x = 3:14Min average (Elapsed Time)

Non-dedicated cruncher:
Running 8 instances for dual 7970 on 990x = 3:17Min average (Elapsed Time)
