Just a quick update. We sent the results of the last beta to the researchers and they found a bug in the ATI logic. They have fixed that and they are currently running the fix against their 'standard set' of images to verify that the application works correctly. We have hopes that this is related to the high invalid rate that we were seeing. However, we will not know until we run another beta.
It will be a little bit yet before we can run that beta as the researchers need to finish their verification first, then send us the code change, then we have to alpha test. Then we will be ready for the next beta. We appreciate your patience and we work through this. |

Thanks for the update knreed.
"Glad?" There was a bug found. Hopefully this was indeed the cause of some of the invalids, and we will be able to move forward after the next Beta round. And to you, or anyone really, where is that table with the results from the betas at? I've tried searching for it, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Cheers |

"that table" could be anything. Talking about cards that succeeded/failed? If that, would it be of use with a known bug having ruined half the test?

That's the table. Curious because Einstein@home had issues with 6xxx series and just wanted to compare. They had to release a different slower app for those cards.

It truly is interesting how anxious people are donate additional resources (self included). I wish I understood this facet of psychology and wonder why it is not pervasive in all our behaviors in our myriad societies. |

... We sent the results of the last beta to the researchers and they found a bug in the ATI logic. They have fixed that ... In the spirit of troubleshooting in general, and bug-hunting in particular, as 5pot expressed, yes, having found a bug is a positive development. I take "a bug in the ATI logic" to mean a hardware-bug in AMD/ATI cards. Is it? If a hardware-bug indeed, then the fix can only be a work-around -- which may be good enough for our specific GPU-computing purposes. I wonder if that same bug is somehow related to a game-oriented "feature"...; ; edit2_2012.06.13We.0848.utc ; - re-touches/cleanup ; edit1_2012.06.13We.0621.utc ; - inserted: a bug in the ; [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 13, 2012 8:48:06 AM] |

... found a bug in the ATI logic. ... related to the high invalid rate ... Oh good and I was beginning to think that my low end $40 ATI (Cedar) GPU was a bug. |

I take "a bug in the ATI logic" to mean a hardware-bug in AMD/ATI cards. Is it? No - it is a bug in the part research application written in opencl that runs on ATI. Due to differences between ATI and NVIDIA there are some specific bits of code for each platform. [Edit 1 times, last edit by knreed at Jun 13, 2012 1:31:22 PM] |

It truly is interesting how anxious people are donate additional resources (self included). I wish I understood this facet of psychology and wonder why it is not pervasive in all our behaviors in our myriad societies. That is an excellent observation. The only thing that truly annoys crunchers is not having work to do, or even worse, being fed useless work. I think it is because the people here have a rather select skill set, and find they can use it to make a difference in the world. It is better than just giving money to a cause, since here you can see that it is being put to good use. Other people have their pet projects and causes too of course, but ours combines high-tech fun with altruism. What could be better? |
